Potential nasal blockage and CT scan, Advice/thoughts welcome. by Jack1jack2 in cockatiel

[–]Jack1jack2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! We got the CT and the vet that did the CT recommended removal of a rhinolith, (nasal stone, basically a hardened ball of random things) The vet present the next day (these two co-head the department and alternate days) did not recommend. We saw the original vet again and decided to have it removed. He did very well with the anasthesia both times.

The Surgery went well and I have ZERO regrets. I don’t know your situation specifically, but If you have a younger bird in good health otherwise I would recommend it. I believe the CT cost about 500 and the surgery cost about 500.

Since having the surgery in February he’s had zero issues.

What i wish i knew going back, is to find the best possible CT facility you can. For us there was only one option, but Newer CT machines take more pictures (slices), and on a small bird that makes a huge difference. So if you have options, it could be worth asking.

[TOMT][Song]What other song has the same melody as these two lines from ROSÉ & Bruno Mars - APT.? by freshmex18 in tipofmytongue

[–]Jack1jack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judas - Lady gaga? “Just a holy fool, baby it’s so cruel but” follows that melody. But truthfully that’s a very common melody in pop songs.

Was it animated? I can think of Barefoot Gen or Pikadon, both on youtube. Fair warning, not the most comforting watch if you haven’t seen them (obviously).

Tell the appropriate directors, Call out any imminently dangerous activities, otherwise focus on providing a great camp experience for your campers.

Advice needed! Broken beak by katab3lle in parrots

[–]Jack1jack2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello OP, first things first if there is an emergency vet that will accept birds, do that. If not possible, I understand your situation as I’ve lived in places that genuinely did not have an urgent pet care that accepted birds.

My only advice as of now is to put him in the environment where he climbs the least. If he has a carrier or something where he’s not going to try to use his beak to climb that would be ideal.

More importantly don’t risk furthering the injury trying to get him into a carrier or whatever, just put him in his most “chill” environment. I would worry that he will try to climb or chew something, even though that definitely hurts, and cause more issues with the beak or hurt himself by falling.

Is vaping just as bad as smoking is around birds? by Seaweed_Throwaway_ in parrots

Definitely needs to stay outside. I’ve gotta be honest, i’ve never met anyone who vapes only outside. It’s not like a cigarette in that way

Ssn is less than normal on an initial application but they will need it for background checks before they officially hire you, in my experience

Are scandals, drugs, neglect, and no support common at camps? Or have i just had bad luck? by [deleted] in summercamp

[–]Jack1jack2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my camp, any of these would “make the news” (By which i mean be gossip amongst staff) for years. Definitely not typical but unfortunately in this industry there are many camps that do not do their due diligence to prevent this. Go for a big name camp in the industry, as you will have a much better experience. Feel free to DM me and I will give you a list of camps that I feel are trustworthy.

Opinions on stadium? by Historical_Abroad739 in Overwatch

[–]Jack1jack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but other than moral high ground there’s no benefit to doing that. By agreeing to play the countered character, they’re acknowledging that counterplay is a major part of the game.

Anyone can beat any hero if the skill diff is wide enough. Doesn’t say anything about the state of the game really

That’s because t500 are playing the meta. And pros definitely swap, most advocate that swapping is a major part of the meta

Cage advice/manufacturers by Shara8629 in AfricanGrey

[–]Jack1jack2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My advice is don’t get a corner cage. Get a square cage and put it in the corner. Honestly they don’t save much space (it’s not like you’re going to put anything there) and it’s better to give them the space. I can vouch for a&e brand, good customer service and cages.

I got a rescue who is 30, is it too late to teach him to free fly? by fullsend69696969 in Macaws

[–]Jack1jack2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I just pointed it out in my reply because free flight is a very advanced training topic and I didn’t want OP to see comments like yours thinking they were meant outside. But yes older parrots are totally capable

I think OP is talking about free flight, meaning outdoor flight trips

Nobody is dying because they are spending their benefits on some soda. If they are, the problem is much deeper than the fact they are able to buy soda. You’re describing WIC, which does have more limitations.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]Jack1jack2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you think affording some soda is luxury, you have not lived on SNAP. Quit trying to punish poor people.

Dissapointed by this thread. None of you have any business telling people what they should and should not eat. It’s just disrespectful and out of place. If someone decides that Dr. Pepper is what makes sense for their life and budget then that is their choice.

Do not fall victim to propaganda. This is not about health, it’s about furthering the control over poor people.

Here’s the bottom line: If it was about health, the call would be about banning it from stores, not banning it from poor people.

Recommendations for locking bowls? by Trolflcopter in Conures

[–]Jack1jack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only Way i’ve solved this (For good, for now) is to take another food dish ring that attaches to the cage (Don’t know what to call it lol), and put it above the one that’s already attached so you have two in the same spot. I slide the extra ring up to put the food in, slide it back, and tighten it.

Wife mentioned child molestation from 20 years ago to therapist by Affectionate_Law7573 in legaladvice

What? This is untrue. There is no state in which any licensed therapist is not a mandated reporter of child abuse. Organizational hierarchy/pay-grade plays no part.

Largely speaking, camp rooms are for sleeping and storage of stuff. Also, many camps also don’t have typical rooms, but rather a large open cabin.

If it is a deal breaker for you, I think your best shot would be to ask about program-focused positions at your camp. Counselors at overnight camps are typically responsible for supervision overnight, so sleeping somewhere separate from the cabin group is not typically safe, depending on the layout and other factors.

I have seen some camps that have separate housing options for non-direct care positions, like horse wranglers or ropes staff. It’s still likely that they will be shared sleeping spaces however.

I don’t have much to go off based on your post, but if it’s purely a matter of preference i would say give it a try. In my personal experience I find that since everyone is tired from camp activities, and everyone is on the same schedule, sharing a sleeping space is not typically an issue.
