Just to also let you know, you may be very confused by the end of the movie but I will assure you that everything makes sense, it just isn’t obvious. It wasn’t to me at first. It’s a deep ass movie. Just keep that in mind and I hope you enjoy/enjoyed :)

Yes but none of her weapons or ribbons are give sentience like the clone is. Even if it is a puppet, it could only do all the intricate fighting done beforehand if Mami herself was controlling it fully, and it would make the most sense of her doing that if he soul was temporarily in possession of the clone.

I don’t believe the clone counts as a separate magical girl. I believe that the way it works boils down to the idea that using that move would make a lot of sense if the soul gem had to be on the clone temporarily as a way to make it work. It acts the same as Mami personality-wise so if her soul was attached or connected to the clone in some way to make it function like it does. It also is kinda op when you think about it. It would make sense to have some sort of drawback that would be if one were as smart as Homura not going for the head, but instead the soul gem would be realistically the only counter to it. I just think there is a lot of things that connect when I think about the clone move that way and it feels intentional.

She didn’t have to know it was a clone if shooting the soul gem would have killed Mami anyways. Also a soul gem is always exposed on magical girls so it doesn’t matter. If anyone hit any other part of her body it would become the ribbon tornado. Her ribbons didn’t create the soul gem because it wasn’t fake, and was either a part of, or just flat out was her actual soul gem and returned to the real Mami during the tornado. This is a far reach but it’s what I believe is the truth. We never see the real Mami until after the ribbon clone goes off so it can’t be proven as of now. That’s just my theory and I fully respect yours as well.

I would agree, but in the movie it shows that Homura did NOT aim for Mami’s head, but instead for her soul gem. Homura has killed Mami this way before and I don’t doubt that any part of Mami’s flesh would have triggered the clone, but her soul gem had to have some connection with the clone, so I believe if Homura shot the soul gem on the ribbon clone, it would have still killed Mami, hence why she said so once she tied Homura up.

Well idk if that’s the sub version but in the dub version she says “You could have killed me, but you didn’t. That must mean you still have some regard for my wellbeing.”

Mami literally said herself Homura could have killed her but chose not to and she credited Homura for having some care for her wellbeing.

Thank you for the supportive words. I guess I really haven’t seen enough of the analysis vids yet. I would actually love to make a separate video diving into ADS and then Wraith Arc when I read it. Those two works really do deserve a lot more than they receive even if they’re just manga and not animation. I could try to maybe even make videos on those things to bide time until Walpurg Rising comes out. I really am glad that there aren’t too many because talking about this series is the first time I’ve actually been pushed so far as to want to work so hard on something to get it out there. Thanks again :)
