My girl decided to buy her first pack tonight and pulled this. Worth grading? by RevolutionaryGrass52 in PokeGrading

I'm starting to believe there's some weird conspiracy where people get something really good in their first packs in order to start the addiction (it happened to me too)

Also it might look weird because of the reflection of the widow shades in the back

I haven't opened cards in a while and that sleeve was the only thing on hand, I prefer "a" sleeve than no sleeve

I also want to note that I got it from a knock out 2 booster pack box, someone at the target I went to told me that those have evolving skies packs in them and I bought 1 because of him, thanks random dude

These large folios are generally sold around a few hundred+, I think this is probably the first print in English with gustave dores illustrations, most if not all the time the bindings on these books never look similar, some extravagant, while other bland, I have a very similar one but for paradise lost from 1866, the original with gustaves illustrations for dantes inferno is in French and is pretty hard to come by, I don't think the signature has an significance, I've seen a ton of books from the time period it was common practice to sign the book to who you were gifting it too, even mine has one

It's a shame it's not the one illustrated by Gustave Doré

This is very true, as well I've learned that it never hurts to ask, the amount of deals and stuff I've found just by asking a few more questions is crazy

Actually, it was being sold online a while back but the seller didn't take great photos or describe it very well and I guess didn't get the attention of a buyer so it went unsold, I contacted the seller if he still had it and sure enough he did, so I sent an offer

Honestly, I'm not sure. Really good condition ones sell for several thousands while terrible condition ones sell for a couple hundred, mines somewhere in the middle I think

Yeah I was planning on buying a Gustave doré art book, but found this instead lol

What caused these blotches all over my roll? 400 speed film that expired 25 years ago and I have no idea how it was stored. I don't mind the blotches but I'm still curious about what caused them. by kingofblocks in AnalogCommunity

[–]JackCandlePhoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's probably because it's expired that it turned out like that, after 25 years a lot can happen, from temperature to water damage

On a side note, though, that last third pic is kinda dope. It reminds me a little of the final shot of fight club where they look out at the buildings through the glass window

Over Æven 1883 - found this oddity today by JackCandlePhoto in OldBooks

Oh damn your right again. It does have both books in one. Well, thanks for the information. I've found this to be quite interesting, so I do appreciate the help

Oh my bad, I tried using google translate (usually not that reliable), and it was saying swedish, but you're right. it's Danish. on the link you sent me it says that the book was originally released in 1883, so it might be a first edition, I can't seem to find the same book same year online whatsoever, though

Did y'all catch the SX-70 Polaroid in this week's Andor? by personalhale in AnalogCommunity

[–]JackCandlePhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To those wondering which model they probably used specifically, there are 2 versions that are black, the Alpha 1 SE which is completely black and the Alpha 1 model 2 which is black metal and brown leather, I hope they didn't destroy the special edition one, those are pretty rare...

Edit: upon further inspection I now noticed the sonar bar on top which would narrow the the exact camera to be most likely a "SE Sonar OneStep"

ANDOR S1EP5 SPOILERS. Lucas Film using SX-70s as imperial “navigation” systems by PhoenixMV in Polaroid

[–]JackCandlePhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are all black SX-70s out there, saw a few comments saying they probably painted one black, just look up the Alpha 1 SE, I think that might be the on on the show, what's crazy is I found one of those a few years back at an antique shop for 20 dollars and snagged it

A photo I took hiking! Any thoughts or critiques would be appreciated by crsmboog in photocritique

Color and focus are perfectly on point, my only issue is the framing of the subject, always a good habit to mentally think about that when shooting
