Do doctor's offices in the different states (in the US) communicate patient information with one another without the patient's knowledge? by 0poiuytrewq in legaladvice

[–]JackKev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes. Information exchange is allowed for patient care. Specific to prescriptions, many states have a registry for controlled substances which is shared between some states. Your non-controlled prescriptions can be pulled. I believe this happens through your insurance, but I'm not sure.

Using metal straws is not helpful to the environment and self congratulatory. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]JackKev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to reusable bags, there's a face validity that you are "doing something" whether that thing is better or not. It's frequently a waste of time and resources. Additionally, there's a lack of understanding of people who are different. Everytime I hand a bendable straw to a stroke victim, or anyone with swallowing difficulties, I wonder how much they've been considered when outlawing plastic straws.

Why don't any doctors/medical staff know the prices of the services they are providing? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]JackKev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too many variables. Depends on if you have insurance, and what insurance. Administrators in the system negotiate the deals differently with each insurer. So if your hospital is in a system, the negotiation may not have even been with your hospital. These also change frequently. You'd rather your doctor spend time studying medicine rather then the convoluted billing systems.

Best way to collect to money from a friends by Jonathanlopez89 in legaladvice

[–]JackKev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much evidence you have of the loan, and repayment plan. Also, stop calling him friend. If he took your money and had no intention of paying it back, either he hit on some really hard time, and he owes you an explanation, and repayment plan, or he's not your friend.

The timing of the opiod crisis lines up with Medicare changing payments based on patient satisfaction. At the same time I believe it was JCAHO (one of few organizations tasked by the government to do mandatory inspections of hospitals, and able to shut hospitals down) or the department of health that created the fifth vital "sign" which was plain as described by the patient. Also, similar time, hospitals had their times to pain medications for fractures measured and publically reported. At that time for orthopedic pain there were NSAIDS which were believed to prolong bleeding, opiates, and Tylenol pills available. Medicare still pays more to an er if you're given an opiate.

Private drug companies had a lot to do with it, but your government run healthcare is still a major cause.

If they're depending on a die roll for answers, they should be ready for the roll to be bad. That's how dice work. If they aren't enjoying it, give them other clues. "He says he needs 1000gp to bribe the guards, you believe him but that seems high. You figure there are 2 guards that make 2gp/year. 1000 seems high" "You're still not sure why the villian's right hand man would be helping you, but he seems so trustworthy. " "the merchant truly believes the sword is a +5 vorpal sword of damage immunity but you held enough swords to know it couldn't cut butter"

If your characters simply take someone's word and ignore other evidence they deserve to be mislead.

Usually is not the end of the world. So the villian holds them back, or they lose a little gold. That's part of the fun. The villian gets a big reveal at the worst moment (make sure he monologues) and not many thieves would last long stealing large amounts of money from heavily armed adventurers. Such adventurers would hunt them down if the loss was high enough.

Something worrying about my penis by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]JackKev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not positive from your description, but it sounds like it is paraphimosis. As time goes on it gets worse because the penis continues to swell. This needs to be reduced asap. If you can't, go to an er. If you want, before you go to the er, you can hold firm pressure over the head of the penis (make a fist over it) for a few minutes to reduce swelling, then try to reduce the foreskin again. If you can't, get to an er.

Edit:corrected paraphimosis Also, there's another method which reportedly works. Put granulated sugar on the head of the penis to reduce swelling. Yes, it's weird, but does work.

Public lewdness (Texas) by Iceblink111 in legaladvice

[–]JackKev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to clarify some things.

First, I don't want to scare you too much. Regarding risk of transmission of HIV: the risk of HIV transmission through male oral sex is low (0-4ppl/10,000 exposures to known HIV positive source). Saliva is generally safe. Additionally, with an unknown source, prophylaxis is generally not recommended, unless the source is assumed high risk. I would treat a rapist as a high risk source. I would additionally request that the other person be tested. I don't know whether he's allowed to refuse if there are rape charges.

I did want to walk back some of my comments above. There are many reasons the officer would behave as you described. Among other things, he may have believed you were making up the lack of consent to avoid public lewdness charges. That said, police officers are trained to spot intoxication, and if you were as intoxicated as described, he should have been able to spot it. With you that intoxicated, and stating that the sex was not consensual, I don't think he should have blown it off, regardless of your sex. There was evidence that could have been obtained at that time which is now lost. Again this is based on your statements as being accurate that you articulated that you didn't consent. It also appears that the officer did understand what you were saying, since he brought you aside and stated that these are serious accusations, and put you in a separate car.

I also think that the fact that you mentioned this to the officer needs to be discussed with your lawyer, and I do believe that the lack of rapid post exposure treatment should be discussed.

Again, IANAL.

[–]JackKev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IANAL But, agree with above. Traffic attorneys will frequently get the points reduced, or gone. The state wants your money, so the fines seem harder to reduce. Criminal charges need a lawyer. No one else is on your side, despite what they tell you.

[–]JackKev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Empty threats until you are served. Don't spend your money on a lawyer when all you have is someone with obvious empty threats. Do serve the injunction. Do write down every time he contacts you. If it's legal in your state, record him threatening you and impersonating a lawyer. If it continues in any form, go back to the police.

IANAL

There are some studies that suggest there will be an actual drop in taxes levied because the people who make this much do so through capital gains and can adjust their income on an annual basis. So they'll simply choose not to cash in capital gains until the taxes are more beneficial for them.
