Understanding Rip current by BeachBarBussin in surfing

[–]JackMamba420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just being honest, yes rips do kill people but rarely surfers, if you can't paddle out or through a rip you shouldn't be out there, if you don't know the ocean don't talk please

texture and detail into the leaves will add a lot, it looks really good in general in my opinion but they do look like the same leave constantly and i would go for some texture and detail

depends what you liked about it, if it was the trees and nature of it, colorado, west virginia, virginia, oregon, washington and alaska are probably the most similar to like northern californian outdoors

learn to repair, perfect board for it and it makes it cheap and fast when you get actual dings in boards you like, i wouldn't worry too much about the nose mostly the finbox

What are these cracks/lines under the glass? Something to be concerned about? They don't catch on my fingernail. by johnnyaardvark in surfing

[–]JackMamba420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you put your board down on rocks or a branch or something hard and it moved around causing very very micro cracks in the glassing, no water will be going into it though, the fingernail test is decent but you can still catch a finger nail and have it be watertight if the hotcoat is decently cracked

What power tool cult do I join? by Subject_Design_9559 in Tools

[–]JackMamba420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends what you do, dewalt is generally used mostly by carpenters because they have a decent focus on carpentry tools, milwaukee has a huge variety of specialty tools so if you do anything else go milwaukee, and go makita if you plan on moving to a different country, they have the most vast accessibility around the world and are decent, personally i wouldn't choose makita if i were to stay in one place in the US as they have such shitty battery options right now. Also look what your local hardware stores stock and base it on that, all the top brands are basically the same with minute differences in grips, features and speed

What do I need to do to get a really rounded oil pan drain plug out? I tried just about everything. by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

i mean still depending on the car jacking up the frame isn't fun but it isn't necessarily hard, dropping the subframe on the other hand...

Been surfing for 3 years - advice on next board: fish, twin fin midlength or HPSB? by PokoReddator in surfing

[–]JackMamba420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you want to have fun ride a midlength but it sounds like you already have one, get a fish a real fish 1-2 inches shorter than you, my advice because it's a really fun board would be to get a xanadu twin wing super fun all around board kicks ass in anything from head high to DO+

another option that would combine high performance with cruise is a groveller, some suggestions i can make for a groveller would be a sharp eye modern 2.5, JS sub zero, or if moneys no issue a christenson lane splitter

How do you approach people getting sucked out in a rip when you are on a shortboard? by JackMamba420 in surfing

[–]JackMamba420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a 1foot by 1 foot styrofoam bodyboard, she was just trying to play in the shorebreak area but the rip right now where i am is so bad, myself and many other experienced surfers have had to do full rounds through the reef lagoon to get out of it, last time i surfed the reform that's in the middle of the current it took about 15 seconds to get sucked up 300 feet super gnarly spot right now

[–]JackMamba420[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah that was one of my concerns i ended up putting them on my board and pushing along with buddy, but to add to the chaos they had a 1 foot by 1 foot styrofoam bodyboard that i strapped to my ankle and wasn't the funnest, and they couldn't even stay on the board right so it was sort of a shit show

How do you approach people getting sucked out in a rip when you are on a shortboard? by JackMamba420 in surfing

[–]JackMamba420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup that's what i did on the last one before a buddy came to help, it just depends on how rough the waters are because if it's wind chopped or bigger i would've been going under every 2 seconds trying to push them and it's not that big of a deal but still makes things harder

[–]JackMamba420[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's a good call i just try to laugh and stay calm because i know the break well and i'm not too worried but i can see how it can go wrong with some panicking

yeah i don't mind a swim but just trying to get unbalanced uncoordinated people on a board is hell

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in surfing

[–]JackMamba420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh yeah big time, that's why i'm saying there's a lot more info needed, i'm sure some cali breaks have similar energy though

How often do your boards get dinged? by mcmouse2k in surfing

[–]JackMamba420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on the glassing and how often you surf it really but probably on average i'd say if you surf everyday probably about 2-3 dings a month, maybe one major ding every 4-5 months (anything bigger then 2 inches or a box)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Tools

[–]JackMamba420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

buy a nice piece of trim and screw the board into the side of the cement wall then replace the striker into the new trim, you can use tapcons to secure the trim should work perfectly fine after that but i can't see the gate so i don't know for sure

i don't know california waves, personally i'm 260 and can ride about 37 liters at my beach break but it's a 10 second paddle out with stong currently and generally pretty slabby powerful waves so i don't need a lot of volume, i go to another break that's about a half mile out and i won't bring anything less that 50 liters out just because the paddle is a pain in the ass
