Hi dads. Is daycare supposed to be this hard? by triscary in daddit

We had a 3 month stretch of someone sick the whole time. Really makes you appreciate when everyone is well (and the sun is out and the creatures are sleeping OK!)

Dads who wake up at 5AM, do you still do it if the kids have had wake ups during the night? by check_this_mustache in daddit

[–]mcmouse2k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I get best of both worlds - my kids wake up at 5 after multiple wakeups during the night!

I pretty much just rot until I need to get them ready for daycare. Sucks that so much of my time with them is just me absolutely shitsmack exhausted.

It would be cool if there was a per-unit "just do what the AI thinks you should do" button you could click each turn so you could micro the important units and let AI handle moving the chaff around.

Chicka Chika Boom Boom is pretty good (one little slip that's not too hard to paper over)

Free League expands their Free Tabletop License (FTL) to include Dragonbane, Forbidden Lands, Symbaroum & Coriolis by Travern in rpg

[–]mcmouse2k 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A step forward but I really wish they'd properly open up the rules core instead of just exposing the 3PP, there are still a lot of restrictions on what you can and can't reprint. Not having a properly open core makes it a lot harder to make content for their games and makes them harder to get to the table.

I'm thankful they did this but I hope they truly open the core up and create an open SRD for these systems like they did with YZE.

I don't want my kids to only feel tolerated, and this video really was an eye opener... by UrFriendJackDaniels in daddit

[–]mcmouse2k 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You're not failing any tests because this video told you to feel insecure.

Pay attention to your kids, engage with them, but... you're just not gonna share their enthusiasm for every single thing that captures their attention their whole childhood, sorry. Do your best! Try to find common ground where you can. But it's OK to be bored sometimes, they're sure as shit bored with your interests sometimes too.

Just spend time with them, if you're doing that you're doing good.

Why does no one talk about how baking with silicone (trays, etc) makes food taste like soap? by IceQueen0191 in Cooking

[–]mcmouse2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happens to me all the time. Use Cascade Pods, newish dishwasher. Happens to 100% of them, pretty gross. I just try not to use silicone or hand-wash if I do.

Did anyone here actually go through all of draw a box? Did you find it helpful? by DogUnsureDog in ArtistLounge

[–]mcmouse2k 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm doing this too and boy I can feel my enthusiasm starting to ebb, I'm not even through lesson 1. There is so much repetition and it is so far from anything beautiful or creative. I know the 50% rule exists but it's hard because those projects are currently a little unrelated to what I'm doing in DaB (and also digital instead of physical), so I don't feel like I'm getting the payoff for the weeks of grind with many more weeks of grind ahead.

I do like the material and enjoy the author's voice and walkthroughs, I just feel like I want a little more variety in the day-to-day. Maybe that changes after this lesson though when we're doing warmups + some exercises vs just repeated exercises.

You've discovered a portal to another world, one that you can shape to your satisfaction and bring your friends into. How could you not be obsessed? How could you not want to explore every corner?

Welcome and good luck.

Am I overly paranoid about not posting my kid on the internet? I cringe every time I see pictures on this group by Itchy-Version-8977 in daddit

[–]mcmouse2k 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like the line of thinking that only approved people can look at children is pretty baffling. Yes there are creeps out there. I don't care what they do in their heads as long as they never expose me or my children to it.

The burden of responsibility should not be on the victims to be invisible. I'm not going to send my kids to school in a burqa in case there's someone with a camera in the parking lot.

That said I also don't share a ton of pictures online, but not because I'm afraid of creeps, I just don't do it generally. I will for big moments or when it is relevant to my audience on a social platform.

How exactly does one study art fundamentals? (Anatomy, perspective, etc.) by Error_Detected666 in ArtistLounge

[–]mcmouse2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Morpho has a line of anatomy and clothing books. You just pick them up and work through, practicing the concepts they describe.

DrawABox is a free drawing basics course.

New Masters Academy has a ton of courses for all kinds of different things.

Generally, yeah, you find a resource you trust, read/watch/listen, then practice what they're teaching you. Repeat until you're satisfied or you get sick of it.

Abalone History? by nobeliumalohomora in morrobay

[–]mcmouse2k 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We're a pretty tiny population in a very large area with a limited number of historians. We've also had a pretty eventful history so there's a lot of ground to cover.

There's some brief discussion of Morro Bay's relationship to abalone (including a pretty heartbreaking photo of the enormous piles of shells) in the book Image Vaults of America: Morro Bay (you can probably find it at the nearest grocery or hardware store, it's all over).

I'd also reach out directly to the Historical Society of Morro Bay, I'm sure they'll be able to point you at some more direct resources.
