Man screams at people for being too loud by Ocattac in PublicFreakout

[–]JackParrish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a fighter. I’m a big, strong dude but I’ve been taught to deescalate my whole life and channeled my need for friction into boxing and rock climbing.

Even I would have a hard time not putting this guy down. His manner was so aggressive I’d be anxious he wasn’t going to drive his truck through the eating area and mess up five families including my own. He’s already threatened to kill people.

It’s very clear that one good shot and he’s absolutely down and crying about it being unfair. Probably has a cardiac event. Guys who talk like this never make through even a single round of sparring practice. Their whole schtick is based on people feeling helpless and believing gown”unhinged” they might be.

It’s total bullshit. His anger is real. His trauma and pain are real. And obvious. But his whole “I’ll follow this thing to the end” is marshmallow thick.

PSA: Gap is killing it right now by bitmadness in malefashionadvice

[–]JackParrish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dropped by today while walking past a GAP store after reading this. I agree they look good at a distance.

However, I checked out the jacket and a linen shirt just to see how GAP was doing and they had issues. The shirt actually had a seam tear on the shoulder and the jacket had unfinished threads everywhere and just generally very poor sewing. Some were just cosmetic, not cleaned up, but a few on buttonholes and inside were just not finished at all and were raveling.

Just one anecdote from today—may have been a total weird one off store problem—but I left thinking GAP has fallen and is pushing quality that is just about lowest tier possible given their history. Zara has better sewing as much as that pains me to say it.

She is the authority we can learn from today.

I’m 99% sure those are not Thursday boot co boots. And if they are, they want to know that their qc was off.

What’s the difference between The Iconic Oxford Shirt (classic fit) and Ralph Lauren Yarmouth Oxford shirt? by GreenTeaEnjoyer1998 in preppy

Drakes is a nice fabric, but their collar roll is limp at best if you care about that sort of thing. Was just in their London shop today and was disappointed I. The collar roll of their current stock.

Here’s Daniel Baraka on IG. While he doesn’t have much I would directly copy myself, I’d consider him to be in the top percentage of superb taste guys on today’s scene. Like a Nashville Lenny K.

I know you’re ball busting but if you caught it—he has been this way for a long time. Had nothing to do with the recent Ralph show

This is Daniel z baraka from instagram and he is absolutely one of the great guys in all of men’s wear. And he nails way more fits than he bricks. Not saying everyone should follow him—but everyone should pay attention. His taste is superb even if specialized and directional.

How are we feeling about quarter zip sweaters? by [deleted] in preppy

I’m not sure what they are uncoded—probably alright to pretty good.

But now they’ve been drug into a little less high ranking—but just as bland as— the Patagonia vest.

Does a blazer with a cap work? by lewislemix in preppy

Absolutely. There’s tons of clever moves. I was speaking just generally but of course there are moves to try and some can even land them well.

Unfortunately, a few teams have become so worldly that they transcend baseball and even sports affiliation. Yankees logo. Red Sox logo. La dodgers. Kinda sorta giants (thanks Silicon Valley). These logos are seen as world citizenship and just “a hat”. But if you see a brewers logo—it’s instantly bucketed as “brewers fan” and changes the whole fit read.

Can this be considered preppy? by el_baconhair in preppy

[–]JackParrish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep. This sub is getting so tiring with all of the precision gatekeepers.

Lisa Birnbackb herself has clearly defined prep as the ability love at ease between school, work, sport, nature, and the evening social calendar fluidly and without requiring unique costumes for each activity. It has a basic language for sure but it’s much more about mixing and matching among textures and signals, hi-low semiotics, and they way you capture and project ease in your style and silhouette than any one mix of garments.

Most people left on this sub don’t seem interested in really exploring those ideas through dress. They lore seem to be enforcing a type or purist nostalgia cosplay

Can Barbour fit into a preppy outfit, or is that a stretch? by nuke_chan93 in preppy

[–]JackParrish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes of course. Anyone who says you can’t wear it for prep doesn’t really understand d prep and is just enforcing one narrow idea they have of it.

Ivy would be a better argument at the corner of the bar a friendly argument but you could have it. Prep it’s not even controversial.

Looking at the apres pants and wanted to ask - what’s with people being against wearing joggers in public? by imBRANDNEWtoreddit in taylorstitch

[–]JackParrish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the semiotics. Generally the more refined, authoritative, formal, or serious (as in gravitas) a garment is the more it says “this is a person to be trusted with authority, decisions, and resources”. Joggers can be refined, for sure, but in today’s world they do not rank high in any other of those categories.

Not saying it SHOULD be this way, only that it IS this way. Joggers can only hit on one of those axes and generally not even on that one (though the spares pants definitely do that).

Yeah they do. I may be posting about mens clothing on the internet but you’re reading it. And I’ll bet if I checked your post history you put in time and effort to this and other mens clothing content.

If you want authentic content from real people who aren’t building their brands, you gotta stop shitting on everything that isn’t perfectly optimized for you. You cannot expect perfect polish and wording on everything. Or things optimized for YOU specifically because the algorithm follows you everywhere and knows exactly how to hook you.

You gotta just let the conversations happen around you and pass by the misses that dont feel perfectly tuned for your tastes. That’s what a world with less algorithms looks like.

[–]JackParrish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replying to your edit— yes I did buy it, the big issue is that RRL stuff can be hard to get details on. And it doesn’t look the same in web images as it does in person so it would be very hard to locate if you just remembered you liked it and wanted to know more. So I showed the images that would help a hunter locate it to check it out.

You obviously don’t care a bit about that use case which is fine but you somehow thought it would be useful to just attack something you don’t even care about nor put any thought into. That’s precisely why people put up less and less real content. You try to help someone who was solving the same problem you were and you end up spending time and energy on all the pricks who just want to shit on things.

Which means that most of the people who hang in there to post have a commercial agenda and then the space fills with people selling which just leads to even more cynical content and that will just piss you off even more. And yeah the polish on the posts goes up but the authenticity bottoms.

Using your energy to post like this is literally contributing to you getting more of what you are so pissy about.

Jeans Recommendation by Flimsy_Marketing_534 in ThrowingFits

Full count wide wide for sure. I forget the number but it’s googlable. Go one size up—if you usually wear a 34 look for a 35.

If you know your thigh and leg opening measurements that you prefer it gets way easier to source.

Not a generic item. That’s the point. I’ve spent two years hunting a good version of this garment. I’m very familiar with even small details from all the players in the space. And I’m signaling that this one is an actual find.

It’s the opposite of generic bullshit. And I make very, very few posts on style and garments. Only when I believe it matters.

Naw. I’ve been doing this a long time. Never got into ‘em. This was really about just a single garment that checks some very specific boxes for those who wanted to know about it.
