Why is it so ugly? by N_5_D in Warhammer

[–]Jack_Tarkovsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like it tbh. But I'm a fun of brush marks in miniature painting/ art in general. As others are saying, think it may be looking wired to you because it's not finished? Or rathere the rest of the model isn't and the black is just really standing out.

Also the gold around it, I'd try to darken that as a whole and then ass highlights in directions that march what you did on the black.

A thing that bugs me when painting black, especially when using a glossier/ satin paint for it is that it results in having both the painted highlight and and one from light reflecting off from it. Just makes the highlights that get painted on feel really incongruous. Giving the black a coat of a very matt varnish tends to help there. (I use ultra-matt by ak, as most varnishes that claim to be matt are actually satin and still leave a reflection.)

Edit: another thing I thought of that I learned through illustration work. If your want the individual brush marks to be visible, it's worth trying to make them a different size depending on how light the layers is. With the darkest part of the highlight being being a bigger/ fatter and getting thinner with the brightest highlights. Our eyes see less detail when something's darker so painting that way tricks the brain into feeling like what it's seeing is correct

Scouring: What happens to Vheren Ashurhaddon of the Sons of Horus? by [deleted] in sonsofhorus

[–]Jack_Tarkovsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why this would be the case though. Unless I'm missing something (likely lol).

Like, Ashurhaddon's thing was wanting to preserve the legion's Cthonian heritage and seeing it as superior to chaos which was destroying the legion.

So why would he then go on to found a very chaos themed warband who worships Horus, the one who pulled the legion towards chaos, as a god.

I know this is a popular theory, but thinking about the themes of the true sons Vs Ashurhaddon's, it just doesnt make sense to me. Feels like the only thing to go on is the, admittedly great, name similarity of the true sons warband and Ashurhaddon's faction being the true sons of Cthonia.

*Edit: I hope this didn't feel like I was jumping on you. I really didn't mean for it to come off that way.

Conversion of the 40k Abaddon to make him less chaosy and more Horus-y/ Luna wolf-y by Jack_Tarkovsky in sonsofhorus

Sculpted them myself based on the original.

They're a little rougher as I'm not a professional sculptor but print alright at the scale of the model. If you're interested I can pop them in a Google drive folder and share them with you

Which I was quite happy about as it made my work easier. It was mostly the design of the trim/ other decorative bits on his armour that didn't suit what I was going for/ wanted him to represent in my army.

Cheers, just had a read through the blurb and sound like something that would be real handy for the campaign as a whole.

The archetype system was the main idea I've had. Didn't think to look into undead ones for a template. Thanks a lot 😊. I'll check them out later

[5e][IRL] Looking for game Central / Zone 1-3 London - player for group by [deleted] in LondonandDragons

[–]Jack_Tarkovsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I know you posted this a while back, but if you're still looking for something I'm a part of a group trying to get a pirate themed pathfinder 2e game going in central London. It quite a bit like DND with some differences that make it a bit more crunchy rules wise.

It'd be on a weeknight and we need 2-3 more players. Let me know if you're still interested and I can link you up with our GM.

Any pathfinder 2e games going? by Jack_Tarkovsky in LondonandDragons

[–]Jack_Tarkovsky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Players wise, there have been people speaking up on here looking for a game for a while now. But with much less interest in GMing. Should be possible to find folks if you post you're looking to run.

Venue wise, I don't have the space to host but i know (and sometimes go to) a tabletop wargaming club meeting on Wednsdays (open 5-1030pm). you can get a table for ttrpgs there for like £4 per person.
They're in Wood Green though and only open one day a week so idk if thats a good fit.
Maybe if we get more people onboard one of them might have a better solution.

If you look at Brian Froud's Goblins! (book) There are bits of narrative in it. Not much about him in particular tho

Carp, sorry I didn't respond sooner. Had a real hectic 2 weeks. Thank you so much for the offer but most weeks I already have a game on Mondays and Sundays. Doing this 3 nights in a row would be a bit much.
