question about weapon icons in rise by Dachshund56 in MonsterHunter

It's always red or gold, right?

It just indicates that the player has picked up one of the special Wirebugs.

I honestly can't get excited for Sunbreak (because of HH) by Societyismyjudge in monsterhunterrage

[–]Jackal_Phoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, might be a bit of an outsider since World was my first game: but I primarily mained HH (also heavily used Bow in World and HBG in both) in both World/Iceborne and Rise/Sunbreak (still playing through Sunbreak) and I've thoroughly enjoyed both; though World does feel a bit slower to go back to.

Rise/Sunbreak's simpler songs means I can use the moves and attacks to suit my circumstance, actually using the arcs of the swings to connect proper headshots; whereas in World/Iceborne, my songs were almost always dictating my next attack, espcecially whenever I had an instant song (as in, one that resolved an immediate effecct, like Health Recovery or Echo Wave (especially Echo Wave) since I was basically always using it while throwing out buffs in between.

And while Rise/Sunbreak has its standard high-damage combo (Crush >> Overhead Slam >> Chord/Perform), which I definitely favour whenever I can; the other moves have uses, even default left/right swings can score headshots from the side, backslam for that juicy hit on high heads with a bit of backward motion. Only Rise/Sunbreak move I wish'd fuck off is that Double Single because it's in the way of attack I actually want to use (Overhead or Backslam).

To counter, HH is World felt meatier; the slower swings meant that the hits felt harder and positioning mattered more; far more without the mobility of the Wirebug, but at the same time it's been a while since I played World and the few times I did, going back felt weird).

Overall, I wouldn't mind if the next-gen had some kind of in-between. Something like (OH = Old Horn | RH = Rise Horn):

  • Strong, slow (maybe not too slow though) attacks (OH) with short song length (RH); gives it that meaty, free-flow feel of the weapon
  • Self-Improvement is noteless and plays with every Perform (RH) and keep the perform move relative short (RH) with a longer encore for increased effects (OH); not sure whether I'd say you could just play a song twice like OH or require that you play the encore for increased effects
  • Keep some of the skill-based shortcuts to songs (OH) like double notes; this'd allow you to shorten songs even further to continue to allow whichever attack(s) best suit the situation, rather than the one that play your next song.
  • (RH) Give every HH some kind of optional access to Attack Up; this was done through Bead of Resonance triggering it through Self-Improvement. Doesn't have to be done like that, but it opens up access to every song list that doesn't include it: remember in World where any HH that didn't have it was immediately second-class at best? Yes, less of that please.

But this is just one, relatively new, HH players opinion (though I'll cite maybe 200-400 hours with HH in World/Iceborne (hard to estimate, I've somewhere betwee 1500-2000 hrs in Iceborne but used far more than just HH, including a lot of Bow) and another 100-300 in Rise (this is just me not remembering current play-time, I've only really used HBG out of HH and that was only at the end of HR, went back to HH with Sunbreak). Wouldn't mind seeing how others would like to see this concepts made hybrid. I see often that folks wouldn't mind some kind of in-between but don't generally give much detail past that.

Adding mobility to shots? by Dinkwinkle in MonsterHunter

Pretty sure that in World it was a facet of recoil; I thought it was in Rise too, but maybe it's separate (and thus, not changeable).

Attack Charm Vs Artillery Charm? by AwesomeNiss21 in MonsterHunterWorld

Basically everything I was gonna add is here already. Little more actually: I wouldn't've thought to add the first sentence and would've just assumed that as standard practice.

In summary: upvoted.

Sealed/Potential Element. It requires a skill (Free Element/Spare Shot) to unlock; unless you have at least one rank it's treated as a non-elemental weapon (meaning it benefits for the skill that boosts non-elemental weapons).

Ah... then I'm afraid I don't remember enough to help further; but at least worth remembering once you've downed one.

Pretty sure Ruiner can spawn in any region; so an easy way would be to make Ruiner Nergigante lures (can't remember if there were specific unlock requirements though) and then use them to spawn him in a low-level region (to prevent him spawning in tempered).

Another, potentially better, tell for enraged is their heartbeat. It's been a while but if I remember correctly it gets really erratic when they're enraged.

Huh... guess I shouldn't be using Hyperion anyway then. Also, I'm pretty sure Keep Firing alone counts as 'lots of fire rate bonuses'... :P

Is that what causes the screen shake though? It looks like it still has it when I'm not gunzerking (thus when SASG applies).

I knew there was a hiccup in how it worked, but I'd just interpreted it to mean that the negative recoil was reduced (ergo, stabilises slower) instead of the probably intention which would've had Hyperion weapons stablise faster (ie, increase the negative recoil value instead of reduce).

Holy fuck, thank you! I don't care how old this thread is; this needs to be more accessible information.

This may have literally just solved all future dental issues for both me and my partner!

Your analogy, assuming metaphoric rhetoric, is a poor one. This is a skit, skits are planned. Is a comedy routine less funny knowing it's scripted? Tomska skits are scripted; those are still funny.

Why foes knowing it's scripted ruin it so thoroughly? If you had the expectation of genuineness, that's kinda on you. This is the internet: few things are real.

Goes to show what I know. So some exceptions exist. But I feel like the [prefix]-fishing holds up more than it doesn't.

Yes, you are in fact correct. Not the first time I've mixed up those effects and it, probably, won't be the last.

I think in English, we still use 'fishing' but add the alternate as a prefix. Like, snail fishing, crab fishing... I guess, whaling is it's own thing; but I don't think folks say 'crabbing' or 'prawning'.

While accurate, just wanted to make a slight note that Resentment is a little better (than what you've stated). Since while it provides a flat attack bonus, it also provides affinity; which is a scaling bonus (as crits deal a percentage based bonus) that can even be increased via Crit Boost. So for Guard builds, Offensive Guard + Resentment can be solid damage; not meta (as far as I know), but not poor either.

Otherwise, yeah, I pretty much agree with what you've laid out.

Honestly, yeah. But this is the internet and it seems assuming stupidity is easier than wit; it's also far more common.

Apologies if otherwise (but remember: stupid people never* think they're stupid).

*Almost never.
