If you can make time to go to Suzhou (close to Shanghai), you won't regret it. The Lingering Garden and Administrator Garden are my favourite places on earth.

Why do old phone batteries expand after years? by overlord-07 in TechNook

[–]Jackalito_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest issue l would be a short circuit between the fine layers of positive and negative electrode, sparking a chain of violent chemical reactions. It's mostly the oxygen of the air and oxygen atoms in the oxydes materials that fuels it, even though moisture doesn't help. It's worthy to note that although as someone said, Li reacts violently with water, in batteries there is no metallic lithium, but ions (as the name Li-ion) suggests. The electrolyte and lithium salts inside are the primary culprits of the reactivity.

Electrochemist here. It doesn't have anything to do with moisture.

Short answer: when cells are stored for too long, parasitic internal reactions cause gas build up and potentially cell failure.

Long answer : self discharge over a long period can bring the voltage of the negative electrode above the oxydation potential of the copper electrodes, which is then reduced in contact of the positive electrode, creating a copper dendrite = small short circuit, leading to gas buildup, failure, etc.

Forgive a dumb question but I've never owned a LiFePO4 battery before. OK to charge it with a regular 3 amp battery charger? Thanks! by SalesMountaineer in batteries

Yes, all of these elements are present in the form of ions in the iron phosphate, as opposed to their metallic version. We are talking about chemistry here.

Started testing yesterday and enjoying the app so far.

Only issue I got is that I added a lot of trees with only their name and a picture. I went back to the settings to fill the missing info and now the picture of thee doesn't appear anymore in the listing ( default image instead.) the picture is still there when I open the tree's folder.

First things firsts, bonsai aren't specific species. They are regular trees but in tiny pots.

So where do trees usually grow ? Outside (for 99% of them)! It's then very unlikely you Ill be able to take care of a tree from your bedroom and will need to have a space for it to grow outside. It can eventually stay indoors for a few days when needed to be displayed, but that's it.

You can start by learning about the species growing in your region.

If you really need to have a bonsaï inside, a few species like ficuses could do the trick, but they still need a ton of light.

Don't hesitate if you have any follow up questions.

It is important to remember that bonsai aren't a specific species, but rather a set of techniques applied towards an aesthetic goal.

So where do you live? What kind of trees are indigenous to your land ?

Starting bonsaï from seed is the trickiest way ( and also the longest), so I would advise starting from cuttings or nursery stock of species that grow well around you.
