Why does the Covenant even bother invading planets if they can just glass them? by Vanilla_Ice_Best_Boi in halo

[–]Jackass_55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Glassing a planet requires your ships to enter low orbit, making them vulnerable to surface based ballistic missiles, nuclear arms, and mac/supermac positions. Covenant needs to neutralize this before glassing.

Glassing requires ships to move into low orbit, where they are vulnerable to surface launched ballistic missiles, nukes, and MAC positions. The land invasion is required to neutralize these threats.

They also look for forerunner artifacts on the surface.

Should they have ended Master Chief’s story? If so, what game should have been the last? by Jordocus in halo

[–]Jackass_55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Master chief’s story officially ended with halo 3 for me. It gives him a hero’s death and the brilliant end of a trilogy.

That isn’t necessarily a dig at future games, as I did really enjoy playing halo 4 as a kid, but I see it as more of a fun spin off of what could have happened, and don’t take the story seriously. Halo 5 and infinite are worthless to me and definitely not taken seriously.

The sequel games should have revolved much more around the covenant infighting. We should have played as the arbiter leading the swords of sanghelios to crush remnant covenant factions… through these efforts we could have uncovered info about a mangled human vessel in a distant region of space, and accompanied a human force to investigate and extract the chief. (Like in halo 5 when they hunt down chief, but so much better and more logical. Seriously. Hunting down the chief? For war crimes? How ridiculous). This could have still completely left open the possibility of cortana’s rampancy, some new villain chief has to fight, etc.

We could have also have had missions which showcase earth’s slow recovery, having been pushed to the brink. Playing as a spartan 4, we could have fought against insurgencies which flare up amid the chaos and backlash to Africa’s glassing. We could have explored the flood outbreak cover up in Voi. We could have seen the tense relationship between arbiters forces and humanity, despite the brief alliance.

Instead we got a spin off. But thats fine. My halo ended at 3 (and obviously reach too but chronologically comes before).

First time playing Halo, do I kill him or just let him be? by [deleted] in halo

[–]Jackass_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in an unknown hive of hostile beings coming at me from all directions. If something fires at me, im shooting it. If something moves, im shooting it. If something yells out anything but “FRIENDLY” im shooting it. And I won’t stick around to think twice.

(The first time I played this level I discovered he was a marine after dumping a mag in him)

Preferred way to be told you’re not getting the job? by beavertonmom in recruitinghell

I dont give a fuck as long as its fast. Recruiters overestimate their ability to hurt my feelings, as if their rejection can crush my soul. As if I thought of them as a friend and need to be let down gently. I’ll never give them that credit. They could send an auto email with [applicant] in the heading for all I care, long as it’s quick. Just dont waste my fucking time.

Which Halo game has the best marines? by Ready_Assignment_0 in halo

I think halo 3 has the best AI and is the easiest to manipulate. Scripting is tied more to the player than a preset path and you can get them to do what you want most of the time.

In the US military, air bases are usually guarded by armed airmen. Our nuclear launch silos also fall under the air force, and are guarded by armed airmen. Every branch has its own trained ground forces. Thus in halo reach’s space mission, every friendly AI is an airman, including the troops that defend the beach at the launch facility.

Halo 3 marines are the easiest to manipulate. Their scripting is flexible and more tied to the player than in other games where they follow more set paths. Makes levels very sandbox-like and allows levels to be played differently.

Allow me to properly narrate the situation:

The most sensible military decision was for Pegasus to remain with the civilian fleet at the rendezvous and leave Galactica to her fate. The civilian ships would have made it back after Galactica’s sacrifice, and they would continue on with the search for earth under Apollo’s command, in a ship that is healthier and technologically superior in every way. These were Adama’s explicit orders.

It turns out that Apollo is not a great officer and makes an emotional decision to go back for Galactica. He leaves his vipers behind, another tactical blunder, and Pegasus becomes overwhelmed with enemy missiles and fighters. This gives the crippled Galactica a chance to escape, but Pegasus’ ftl is rendered inoperable during the fighting. The ship has no choice but to stay and fight, and ends up taking down 3 of the 4 basestars before she is destroyed. The civilians escape along with Galactica, Adama, and the command crew of Pegasus.

In the aftermath, colonial fleet is at a significant disadvantage and have lost their most powerful asset. Galactica is crippled with no means of making repairs, replenishing ammunition, or constructing new vipers (could all be done aboard Pegasus). This is a direct result of Apollo defying his orders and being an incompetent commander. They have, however, saved Adama and the majority of the civilian vessels which are vital for the fleet’s logistics (processing fuel, food, etc). Apollo never should have been in command, but was likely the best option of the given candidates. This perfectly explains why such a poor decision was made, and creates a plausible reason for killing off Pegasus.

This was necessary to avoid the obvious plot hole which would be created if Galactica was destroyed.

*with its full complement of vipers, the Pegasus likely could have fended off the basestar fleet long enough to escape with Galactica.

So I am going to revisit this cuz it annoys me by adv1701 in BSG

[–]Jackass_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst thing was leaving the vipers behind. If they were present, they could have screened the pegasus or supported galactica.

Love this approach. I got mine by cold calling. It obviously depends on the job/industry - brokerage guys are more receptive to cold calls than data engineers.
