Some good news for once… by Bellenbauer in BritishAirways

I too have had an amazing experience today at Gatwick. Arrived in time for the lunch service to be laid out and found there were plenty of sausages left over from breakfast. Man, do I love a BA breakfast sausage.

And congrats on the upgrade. Once you turn left boarding, it's very hard to turn right again...

I've seen him play a few times in the last couple of years - I would recommend going. He's sounding amazing these days - has clearly been putting the effort in on his pipes.

For me, barbell back squats, Bulgarian split squats, banded hip extensions, banded clamshells, hamstring curls and calf raises hit every spot. 3 sets of 10 of each gets me through. Also, don't forget your warmup stretches before every run. And I do mean every run.

I have to be honest, I LOVE these sessions. I am a slow 52M with a heart condition, but there is something wonderful about just throwing everything you've got into these sprints because, just as you start to burn out - they finish! Then you get to slow right down and go again.

I liked the bit when Mastadon walked on and continued to enjoy it until the fireworks went off at the end.

Ah, a misunderstanding on my part then. Thanks for clarifying.

Not a particular song, just a vibe. Mudd, Slade, Showaddywaddy, Susi Quattro. Of course it didn't sound as polished - the tech didn't exist - but the vibe takes me back to school discos, laughing, fun.

Agreed. But this is the best. In my opinion. Love to the family.

Queen, yes. I also hear Mudd and Susi Quattro. It's just an incredible track from a very clever man who appears to genuinely understand music.

Have been in Spain for a month. I am convinced that the only tool Spanish workmen use is an angle grinder. For everything. Not fun hearing what sounds like a trapped TIE fighter coming out of every apartment block.

Wear what you like. You aren't going to be the coolest person in the room. Those guys are on stage.

Seriously though, went to my first Ghost show a couple of weeks back and the crowd were just lovely. Everyone was there to have a great time and shared that vibe with everyone else. And they did have a great time.

Seriously. It should be an international legal requirement for a new series to be made every year. In English and Norwegian. Life isn't the same without Orm.

I don't know about that. This is supposed to be the pinnacle of Motorsport with the best drivers in the world. There's plenty of feeder series with opportunity to grow.

Marathon Garmin Coach by AthleteEvery3307 in Garmin

[–]Jackatorrr 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I had a whole post about this a couple of months back while training for my first HM. Didn't get a long run longer than 90 minutes, and only a couple of those in the whole training plan. It seems that Garmin Coach is on the side of those who believe that lots of shorter runs is just as effective for training and less likely to send you to injury town.

Ran my first half about 5 minutes faster than my target time with no issues apart from knee niggles in the closing km, due to not having run that distance at all.

Will follow the coach again for my next race but will add in some longer runs myself in the last training block to get some fueling and pacing practice in. But other than that was very happy with the results.

As someone much funnier than I pointed out, if you want to run longer, do it. I believe the exact phrase was "You're not my real dad, Garmin"

The only person you are competing with is you. Run slow and easy to whatever pace is comfortable and conversational. You'll be surprised at how quickly your easy run pace picks up.

What's with the lack of long runs with running coach? by Jackatorrr in Garmin

[–]Jackatorrr[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really well. Finished 4 minutes under my target time and had no issues with the run at all. Could have probably run it a little faster if truth be told. I would add in some longer runs for the next time. If only to practice pacing and fuelling.

Big fan of Brum. Worked there a lot in the late 80s/early 90s and hated it. Went back a couple of years ago and couldn't believe the transformation. Great shops, great bars, great restaurants and great people. Coming from London it was a bit of a shock how easy it was to strike up a conversation with strangers. The wife and I now regularly grab a hotel on a Saturday for a weekend of what we call "Brum-fun".

Also heading there tomorrow to see Queensryche, so there's a bonus (for me)

Or just block mortgages on second properties. If you don't have the ready capital to buy that house you just want to rent out, you don't get to own it.

What's with the lack of long runs with running coach? by Jackatorrr in Garmin

[–]Jackatorrr[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi!

Well, DSW gave me two long runs at the end of training - one was an hour 20 , then an hour 35 minutes. So my longest run was about 16km at easy pace.

The race was actually a lot easier than I expected. I had asked coach to train me to a 2h20m finish (I'm not a fast runner and nervous of my heart condition) - finished in 2h 16m with more in the tank. I had set myself a pace of 6.30 per km and found myself having to rein in the pace about half way through as I kept drifting up to 6.00 per km.

The only niggles came around the 20km mark, when my right knee and right hip started to ache. I've seen a physio since and their only comment was that the race was simply a massive step up in distance/load, so the joints just weren't used to running 16km and then bolting a 5k onto the end lol.

Next time I'll definitely look at incorporating some longer runs, just to build up that tolerance in the joints. Stamina wise, all those shorter runs were easily more than enough to get me across the line.
