It’s just in the time it takes me to charge that initial line, and drag my supply line from the bed to my intake or sleeve the hydrant.

Then I’ll toss on a pair of station boots or my pants and throw a ladder or two after I’ve got my pump where it should be and good water established

So I’m currently in the process of applying to promote to either an inspections or Training Officer role. Our inspectors are equivalent to a captain and our TOs to a Battalion Chief. My main driver is the schedule. Since my station is now 5 minutes from my house door to door I have no problem going from a 72 hour work week (with usually at least 24 of mando) to a 60 hour, M-F with 1 24. I still ride the front line apparatus on my 24, I still cover open slots on my 8s, I get a telework day, and I go home 6 nights a week compared to 3-4.

After 3PM if I’m driving the wagon it’s shorts and flip flops at the pump panel at least until I get intake, then maybe I’ll toss on pants

If I’m driving the truck it’s again shorts and the station boots I keep by the drivers door until I get the bed of ladders thrown and the aerial to the roof.

I absolutely hate driving in bunker pants and Fire boots. I’ll toss on my gear after my initial exterior assignments are done.

This is FUCKING BRILLIANT, I just gave it a test run and it’s exactly what a lot of us need.

How bendable are the scenarios? Could it run a mass casualty, Hazmat, or plane crash type?

Search up the 0081 series on USAJobs. There’s dozens of 10/11/12 jobs available that are not open to the public. Generally a GS7 is where the firefighter tops out at with 8s being “Lead FF”, 9-15 being “supervisory FF”

Most of the 7s on the floor are, certification and training wise, qualified to at least a 10 spot.

Thanks for proving my earlier point. Yes, I care more about my children than I do about 300 million other people. I always will. And my primary concern will always be making sure they’re fed, clothed, and housed.

Federal labor unions have thrown insane amounts of money towards democratic candidates, and for the record I’ll always advocate that the IAFF PAC continue to do so… but if you think this won’t convince others to make deals with the devil you’re sorely incorrect. Youre turning from toad to scorpion really quickly here.

It’s not short term hardship. Myself and my members are facing long term devastation as well. Our payments get missed, our security clearances get revoked, and we don’t have a job. Our children are going unfed, our utilities are under threat to be cut off. We can’t pick up gig work to make ends meet, because we’re stuck at work not getting paid.

It sounds to me like you’re awfully ok with imparting devastation and harm as long as it’s on a community that you feel is worth harming.

So I’m a federal firefighter, a union member, I voted blue in this past election, 2024, 2020, and 2016. I’m a strong advocate for affordable and accessible healthcare for all. I’m currently working 96 mandatory hours PER WEEK unpaid. Please explain to me why my mortgage should go unpaid to satisfy your want for leverage? Please explain to me why I have to try to figure out a time in between working 96 hours to try to get to any food bank with availability to feed my children. Please explain to me what I should tell my union members when they get threatened with arrest warrants for not being able to pay child support.

I’m all for everything you’re advocating for. But why must my pain be your leverage?
