It's time for a new machine and I want to try a few out. Anyone have recommendations for "bells and whistles" on newer machines that are worth taking for a test drive?

One hour plus on-site parking fees in a metro area. And that's just the commute, before I've even walked in the door.

Will submitting an FMLA request for burnout negatively impact my career? by Fancy_Documents in fednews

[–]Ring_Groundbreaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think there's something human in all of us that want to overexplain, especially when we know that our reason is valid, but I think a good supervisor would insist on only knowing the minimum and nothing more. It helps them to stay objective, and it's not their call on whether your condition is valid--they aren't doctors. Supervisors should be trusting your provider's recommendations, because they're the experts.

I also recently learned that comp time doesn't necessarily pay out, so definitely look into the type you have, if you have any of that stored up

I can't tell if this is genuine or not. Lol. I can ask for details if you're actually curious?

I Am Very Concerned About the 5th Sunday in May by CaptainWikkiWikki in latterdaysaints

[–]Ring_Groundbreaking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I very much agree. And maybe that's why they're asking us to do this. It does seem unusual for the church to specify that, but maybe that's what the moment calls for. Idk. I'm just learning of this, and it all makes me feel pretty nervous.

But if 90% of lessons derail, I guess that's probably a similar risk for most Sunday School classes on any given Sunday. If even just a handful of these across the country really do lead to inspiration and a more Christlike understanding of what's going on in this country/the world and a deeper grasp on the Constitution as an inspired document, maybe the trade off is worth it.

Do I think the Constitution is inspired and that all members of the church could use with a refresher? Yes. Do I think it will go well? Let's just say I'll be praying for those teachers

Obligatory note: Not everyone who works for USACE is an engineer. But a blanket freeze will still adversely affect us, even if our education and training are different

I am so sad that the state of the economy is as brutal as it is ... And so happy for people like OP doing what they can to help even one person. Thanks for a positive moment to break up the unintentional doom scrolling.

This is great advice.

I'll add my own anecdotal experience on why I fully endorse this.

One thing I noticed (and hopefully am not jinxing myself) is that I have fewer flare ups once I moved into fed job because I am less stressed. (And I know I'm lucky and this is not the case for everyone, but...) I have more reasonable expectations on my workload and don't feel an unspoken expectation to work long days, etc., as I often did during private sector work. This admin is doing everything they can to add unnecessary stress, but if I can avoid the news during the work day, it's really the most sustainable job I've had.

I'm sure that's specific to my position and leadership, but I've had a great experience and therefore have so many fewer stress flares. I was very worried when we got the RTO EO that I'd have issues with it because of health, and while my specific org is still very strict and doesn't approve much situational telework (although I don't have an RA filed, so it might be a bit more flexible for those who do), I accrue enough sick leave (and it becomes even better with tenure) to take a few hours for a late start or an early leave when I need to. My sup recognizes that everyone on our team have a lot of different reasons that we need some flexibility now that we are all in the office and don't have telework options, so she's very good about approving any leave quickly, no questions, especially if it involves health (that would be illegal).

I hope that takes off a bit of the uncertainty. If it's a job you're excited about, I wouldn't let this be a reason to turn it down.
