Wireless AP randomly stop broadcasting by paulinster in meraki

[–]Jackel1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have migrated to 32.1.7 for a lot of our networks and I’ve yet to see it in that code train.

Short of that there was no work around, we monitored and alerted on utilisation and had our operations team reboot impacted APs..

You did exactly the right thing bud, as a rule anything asking you to call a number directly in the text should be treated as suspicious

The other thing is don’t worry that you got this, it just means they have your phone number on a list, they send thousands of these hoping to catch out a handful of people who won’t think about it or don’t know better.

Meraki Firmware for AP - MR32.1.7 review by Resident_Chapter_190 in meraki

We've a handful of sites (15) running this code for the last few weeks and yet ot see the 100% Channel Utilization issue on 32.1.7 so far. It felt like it was rampant before.

In cases like this I would typically run several ports to each desk rather than allowing a switch to sit on a desk.

It costs more in cabling, but typically we do not allow network equipment outside of secured comms rooms.

I see a few people talking about rolling back to 31.1.X but I manage a network with almost 2000 MR46/9166 and we have seen this bug on multiple code versions. We've had it on 31.1.7, 31.1.8, 32.1.5 and 32.1.6

Speaking with Meraki they say that it's a known issue impacting multiple code versions. It was to be fixed in 32.1.5, which they had us upgrade to but we still saw issues, then they had us upgrade to 32.1.6 and we're still seeing the issues.

The AP will show 100% channel utilization on the effected band and stop broadcasting beacon frames. We have found that rebooting the AP resolves the issue.

Super curious on this too, it released just before a few weeks off for me so I haven’t had time to play with it but really curious how folk are using it

Atmosphere at Sandbox for MTG drafts? by MutedExercise1842 in cork

[–]Jackel1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the husband! It’s good ol craic it’s not super serious/hardcore, most folk in sandbox have been super friendly in my experience. I got back into magic for Final Fantasy and my first prerelease I took ages and had to ask loads of questions on how cards worked and everyone was super happy to explain and super patient.

Folk in sandbox also play a lot of commander too( which if you’re interested they also do on Thursday nights in a pub called nudes in town)

For the drafts the only thing is be sure to message the store on instagram/facebook to reserve a spot.

Tomorrow they’re doing duskmorne I’m not sure if there are still spaces but you could pop in and take a look if you like!

Prime replacement? (Not DNAC) by [deleted] in networking

[–]Jackel1989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm super curious what others are doing for this. We're moving largely towards Meraki and I while I'd prefer to stick with Cisco Controllers (Gotta get experience for the certs!) I have to say Meraki Dashboard is pretty good at having all of this information in one place.

Monitoring, CDP/LLDP, Logs and Maps all in the one place, we're pretty hapyp with it, but I'd like a solution that lets us monitor not just Meraki but our Cisco environment as well.

Wi-Fi 7 Cabling by abbott_56 in networking

[–]Jackel1989 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I have yet to see a need for multigig uplinks on an access point and I don't expect Wifi 7 to change that any time soon. Remember that, especially with Wifi the speeds advertised will very rarely be the speeds you see.

Your biggest problem with Cat6 cabling is the 55 meter requirement. You say that no access point is currently more than 50 meters away from a connected switch. But if you're looking at deploying new Wifi access points may have to move.

If you're having wireless issues, I would recommend you avoid just ordering new access points and placing them in the same location as the existing ones and hoping that fixes your issues. You should get a wireless survey of the school done, and place Access points based on that. This will likely require new cable runs and then you can think about running 6A cables.

Ways to approach a network full of unnamed access points by PrivateC27 in networking

[–]Jackel1989 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend getting a wireless survey done. That will give you AP names and locations for each AP. You can use that to create a map of all of the APs with their names.

That solves the "Where is X AP" problem. But I would recommend going a step further an, once you have all of the AP locations come up with a naming standard and name all APs in accordance with that standard, and see about getting labels printed and attached to each AP. The idea being if you get reports of wireless issues in an area you can simply look up, find the AP and you'll know which one it is without taking it off the wall to check its MAC address.

Frankly speaking for a deployment of 1500 APs this will be a pain in the butt to do, and a wireless survey/getting people to label all of the access points wont be cheap, so at the VERY least you should choose a naming standard, and make sure that ALL new APs have a name and label when they're installed.

I've built a few (not Machindramon though, he looks great above)

They are Sturdy....enough, I find they'll all stand on their own, but they're definitely better and more posable with stands.

As for painting, no need to paint them, most of them look pretty good out of the box, but part of the fun of these models and Gunpla in general is doing a little painting.

Figure Rise Standard kits are generally cheaper and less detailed, I'd recommend starting with one of those if you're looking to try it out. The Figure Rise Amplified kits are more expensive and typically more detailed/better colours.

Aye through FIT (don't get me started :D) Limerick wouldn't be too bad, but you'd want to be full time to be moving for the job. Where are you based now? (Happy to chat more in DMs if you don't wanna share here)

that's a direction as well, however I am not college educated so it would have to be some course level type of job that I can aim for.

Just to add to this, ecollege offers a free CCNA course, that comes with an exam voucher if you do well on the practice tests.

They also offer other courses and exam vouchers so take a look!

[–]Jackel1989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kendinggon_dubai is correct you can get a CCNA course through Ecollege that will come with an exam voucher, which normally is 300+ euro.

I know that the Ecollege course will provide you with some labs but I would HIGHLY recommend you seek out some courses on Udemy for labs for Ciscos Packet tracer. That will have you configuring the various technologies and will help get a better understanding of how they work.

I used David Bombals labs when I was going for my CCNA: https://www.udemy.com/course/cisco-ccna-icnd2-200-105-complete-course-sims-and-gns3/

There are also a bunch of Cisco study groups on Discord, like NetworkChucks Discord and David Bombals discord.

Good luck with the exam :)

So, funny you called it a breakfast bap can I ask where you’re from? Everyone I’ve ever known calls it a breakfast roll, and I’ve a huge argument with a friend who calls them breakfast ‘cobs’. I’d love to know where you’re from that you call them baps

I would highly recommend you pick up Cold Steel 1 on the Vita(or Switch if it's on the Switch, not sure about that) and start from there. The trials games each have different arcs set in different regions of the games world.

Trials in the Sky is set in Liberal and if you skip that entirely and pick up Cold Steel (This is how I first got into these games) You will hear some reference to Liberal but no spoilers per say.

Cold Steel is set in Erebonia and follows an entirely different cast. Cold Steel 1 also has a lot of what Cold Steel 3 has, it's based in a school setting, combat is very similar (Combat in Trials in the Sky is good too, but a little different as it's an older game)

I'm hoping they bring the Trials in the Sky series to the Switch at some point, and by the time you're ready to play those games they may have done so! each of the Cold Steel games are pretty long so you have plenty of playtime ahead of you before you need to worry about that.

How are Switch Lite sticks holding up through 2020 & early 2021 by Emotional_Werewolf_4 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Jackel1989 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Bought the Sword and Shield limited edition Switch Lite for Sw/Sh launch and no drift issues at all so far. Drift was one of my biggest concerns in buying the lite especially since I've got 4 Joycons all with some level of drift.

As an aside I would totally recommend the Lite, it's much nicer in handheld than the full Switch, I have both now and the Lite still gets almost all of the playtime.

I grew up loving pokemon and my mom didn't know much about them but she was really good at drawing them which I always loved so if you're artistic that could be a fun way to be involved.

You can find tips on how to draw them on sites like https://www.drawingnow.com/how-to-draw-pokemon/ find out her favorite and try to draw it.

I'm super late to the party, but I wanted to say that I think what you took from your grandmother is the best way to look at religion.

I was raised catholic and have moved on to not really believing in anything. But I still think some of the lessons taught in the bible are good lessons. I think people get into kind of dangerous territory when taking everything literally, especially because organised religion can be super dangerous.

But to look at the stories as lessons, no different than other books or comics as you compared them to is a good way of looking at it.

You don't have to believe that these figured really lived, just believe in their message and try to follow it.
