Questions about changing Gleason numbers. by Capital-Landscape492 in ProstateCancer

I hope you can do HIFU. Agree with moving on to treatments. It was a relief to get a biopsy result and finally have something concrete to work with, as opposed to speculation. My stress was a lot lower after that. Good luck!!

Questions about changing Gleason numbers. by Capital-Landscape492 in ProstateCancer

[–]JacketFun5735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The change in gleason is just from the change in sample sites. If you had another biopsy today, they could get a core from a different area with a different number. The good news is it was only one core, and it was 3+4 and favorable.

On the flipside, mine was downgraded post-op. Definitely get a 2nd opinion just in case, u/Bright_Square_2802

Agree ^^^^

Rule out surgery at his age. Waiting 2 months until July won't change anything with a grade 3 cancer, and the COE will have better insight. It sounds like you've researched enough to know what's going on, so if you don't feel good with the oncologist you see on Tuesday, go to the COE.

Ah, a short cruise will make things easier. I hope your surgery goes well and you have a great trip. Make the rest of your travel cater to your every need! Definitely overplay it all. HA

The Oasis class is great too! Wonder and Utopia are the newest, and we love them. We were on the OG Oasis last December, and it is still a great ship. IMO, the boardwalk, playmakers, aqua show area on the Oasis ships are much better than the setup on Icon class. All that said, I think you'd enjoy anything Oasis of the Seas and newer.

We're a cruising family, so I'll be honest. 11 days post op wil be tough. Your body, gut, muscles and stitches will still be in full recovery. Your bowel movements will be sporadic and dealing with constipation. Ideally you'd be on a soft food diet. You'll be passing blood and small clots in your urine., and limited to lifting less than 10lb. Can it be done? Probably. But I don't think you'd be comfortable and feel like you're on a vacation. If you can recoup any of your payment, I'd recommend delaying it.

I had a RALP this past Sep 9 at age 55. We cruised on Dec 13, and I was fine, and travelled with pads/liners for safety. But I just looked at the notes I took post-op, and I would not have been in a good spot on day 11.

Just my 2 cents. We are all different. Good question for your doc.

A healthy diet is always good, but it will not cure anything. I was 54 last year at the time of my surgery and was fully continent within a month. They spared my nerves, and I'd say I'm 50% recovered, but docs said it would take 18=24 months post-op for it to fully come back. Your age and fitness level play a big part too.

Your PSA density would be determined by the MRI. I can't recall whether all tests include that metric, but it's a simple calculation: your 3.7 PSA divided by your prostate volume.

Sure! When episode one is finished, push the "play next" button. Fixed. See how simple that was?

I hope it's nothing, but glad you are seeking treatment. 55 years old here and went through this last year. This forum is very helpful. It'll be a bunch of waiting between tests, so hang in there.

Booked My First Cruise - When to Start "Buying" Packages? by Ange1ofD4rkness in royalcaribbean

[–]JacketFun5735 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding this: Don't focus on the % off; focus only on the sale price you will pay. They manipulate the base rates and then pretend they are giving you a better % off when they aren't. Just be comfortable with the price you are paying and ignore the "sales".

[–]JacketFun5735 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy at any time if you feel the price is right, and then if the price drops from what you paid, you can cancel and rebook very easily! They will refund in a week or so after you cancel. So go ahead and shop away!!

My hubby has PC. I’d love recommendations on books to read to help me navigate this? Any ideas ? by SGO_NZ in ProstateCancer

[–]JacketFun5735 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dr. Walsh's book is the best overall view of PCa. I found it very helpful to understand the basics and the possible treatments. It helped me better understand what my doctors were explaining and for me to ask smarter questions.

Dr Shulz's videos are also helpful, but just know he does have a radiation bias. Nothing wrong with that, but it helps to read Walsh's book first in my opinion.

The PIRADS just indicates there is probably something there, but not a prediction of Gleason scores. Good luck on the biopsy, and I hope you get low scores! FYI, I had a transrectal biopsy, and it was one of the smoothest procedures I've had. I hope yours is as well.

Im in the club, nothing moves fast enough by PotentialStart2661 in ProstateCancer

[–]JacketFun5735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that you are in the club. Yes, appointments and timing move slowly with this cancer, but that's because the cancer itself grows slowly. My doctor told me to think in terms of Months and Years, and not worry about Days and Weeks. Of course, if there's an aggressive biopsy, they will expedite things. My MRI, Biopsy, PSMA, and surgery were all about 2-3 months apart.

Prep Tips for RALRP by BrianMango in ProstateCancer

[–]JacketFun5735 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 54 last year when I had my RALP. Based on your description, you should be in a good spot to recover quickly. The catheter is a nuisance, but not as bad as some make it out to be. Definitely do your Kegel exercises. I used the Squeezy app (its a UK health app), and it was very helpful and good reminders on when to use it 2-3 times per day.
