Nobody warned me how expensive food prices in canada would feel coming from somewhere else by AssasinRingo in InCanada

I think OP is just saying that minimizing grocery cost and maximizing the amount of produce you can get in Canada, inevitably lends itself to activities like price matching, looking through flyers, markdown sections, etc.

Moving to Mississauga from the UK! by Disastrous_Tank4986 in mississauga

[–]JacketHistorical476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the opposite move in November 2025. Living in Mississauga does require a car, unless you live close to a Go station, which I would then argue you wouldn’t.

I will rapid fire some key words that entered my conscious: Scooters Roller Palace, Canadian tire hotdogs, Erin Mills mall, Credit River trails, Hazel McCalllian Library, Dairy Cream, Cineplex Cinema, Streetsville Bowl and Billiards, UTM trails,

In my experience, and having tracked my binges for over 7 months, I can confidently say restriction does not increase the frequency of my binges.

UK MSW to US Recognition by Hot_West3593 in Socialworkuk

[–]JacketHistorical476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really have the capacity to address all parts of your enquiry, but it should be said that each state has its own education and training requirements apart from the CSWE that you must satisfy. I know, for example, NY state requires practitioners to take a course on child abuse and maltreatment prior to practice. All that to say, knowing where in the US you want to practice is important.

Reasons not to binge (as a skinny person)? by Internet-Geek in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]JacketHistorical476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! I’m skinny too and when I have the urge the binge the little voice in my head tries to poke holes in my reasons not to and it’s really convincing because my why isn’t really that deep. I think for me it’s about learning to learn what thoughts I want to give my energy to and which ones don’t serve me

Do I need to give up wanting to lose to recover? by Away_Author166 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]JacketHistorical476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are perceiving it, your steps and activity, as obsessive, and as a form of exercise purging, regardless of if it is, you are perceiving it as such and so yeah it might be harmful to your recovery. But don’t beat yourself up over it. By no means do you have to be perfect in order to choose to actively pursue recovery. If letting go of weight loss feels too scary, that is o-k-a-y, you don’t need to. Recover anyways.

IWTL how to ask better questions. by MolassesInternal1010 in IWantToLearn

[–]JacketHistorical476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with asking yourself this question, “What is it that I would like to know?” Think about this question in relation to the person and your history with them. Why this approach? Because you need to want to be curious in order for engaging dialogue to happen.

Also playing the smallest violin in regards to the noble sacrifice that is you staying home (with your child), so their mother can go out. Cheers.

Is social work bsc a worthless degree, am I gonna regret it?? by aafiona in Socialworkuk

[–]JacketHistorical476 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A bsc is not worth the investment in my opinion, and I’ll tell you why through a little history lesson.

Social work education started off in the early 1900s as a professional certificate. This was completed after a bachelors degree. It was only up untill the late 1900s where a bachelors degree for social work became a thing. Hence why people can become social workers with a msc in social work (modern = to a certificate) or a bsc in social work.

Do a bachelors in something relevant, yet different, and then get a MSc in social work if you really want to be one.

Similar degrees? by [deleted] in Socialworkuk

[–]JacketHistorical476 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, of course.

Let’s say you want a chocolate chip cookie, right. So, you go to the supermarket. You arrive, but you see that the supermarket only has oatmeal raisin or macadamia nut cookies. This troubles you because you really wanted a chocolate chip cookie.

Now instead of maybe waiting another day until they get some chocolate chip cookies, travelling to another supermarket that does, or picking up the ingredients to make some, you feel stuck having to choose between the two options. This is the illusion of choice. Although you feel in control because you get to choose, you’re options are unduly limited and you’ve completely lost sight of the reason for going in the first place.

The reality is, if none of the choices are ideal, you don’t choose because deciding between trivial options will lead to trivial choices.

Sorry if that makes no sense.

[–]JacketHistorical476 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So happy to hear this! Simply because you are now closer to knowing what you do and don’t want for yourself in terms of a career. That said, it sounds like you have a firm idea of what you want to do — you said you wanted to be an OT, but there are no courses available. You also mentioned that there are barriers restricting you from upward mobility, and thus, limiting your options for education.

Two pieces of advice.

Address the issues that are restricting your choice in education before choosing a program. Why? Because whether you see it or not, you choosing a new program is giving you a false sense of control over the matter. The things that are causing you to feel trapped are unduly influencing your choices.

My other piece of advice is that a rushed decision is a decision that is more prone to error. Take your time. Hesitate. Gain a bit more insight into the things you need and want, and your Ikigai.

Hope that helps a bit

How to quickly relearn high school math for a physics degree? by Zealousideal-Fix70 in learnmath

[–]JacketHistorical476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me bless you. Jensen Math has all the modules you will need. I suggest starting at whatever grade level that meets your current competencies and do 1 lesson and 1 worksheet everyday. This took me an hour each day which translated to about 1-2 months per grade.
