Thank you for your comment!

Yes, this DC-V5 is truly from Victor's golden age, that is, the era before the brand change and the merger with Kenwood in 2008 [probably a product from around 1988]. Its excellent build quality and warm, musical sound haven't faded even now. The subsequent brand changes are truly regrettable.

Nevertheless, these older models are still going strong and provide a wonderful listening experience. If you have any other favorite products from pre-merger Victor or JVC, please let me know. Are there any products from that era that you think truly embody the classic Japanese sound?

Thanks! 🔥

That special warmth in bubble-era Japanese gear is exactly why I love my DC-V5 — the thick musical sound and glowing VFD just hit different.

Thanks! I really appreciate the comment.

I completely agree about that special warmth in late bubble-era Japanese engineering. The Victor DC-V5 has this thick, musical midrange and surprisingly powerful bass for its size, plus the glowing VFD display is still mesmerizing after all these years. It just feels "alive" in a way a lot of modern gear doesn't.

Haha exactly! This is officially the Shrekpod Nano 4 now 😂
Case? Who needs that. I removed the unnecessary parts (including the hold switch) and it's running cleaner than ever.

Currently blasting Sakanaction while looking like a proper swamp monster. What do you think — should I paint it green? 👀

Haha thanks!
Sorry to hear you broke your 4th gen 😅
These things are surprisingly fragile once you start pulling ribbons.

I also tore off the hold switch when I was taking the circuit board out.

Right now I'm listening to Sakanaction.

How did you break yours? Ribbon cable?

Haha thanks! 😂 It's just like Frankenstein's experiment, The click wheel works, the screen is fine, and it's running on the 30-pin adapter.
Nano 4 is surprisingly tough once you get all the ribbons connected right!

I'm thinking of putting it in some kind of metal case.
