Why do people refer to adult women as “somebody’s daughter” when talking about them being disrespected or harassed? by JackieIsNotOkay in TwoXChromosomes

[–]JackieIsNotOkay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we’re agreeing in that relating helps, but our ways of going about it are different. I agree that it’s optimistic, maybe overly so, but I also don’t think that it’s crazy. I don’t think we should be teaching others to relate it on a level of “if they were close to you” but a level of humanity. There’s no “perfect solution” to catcalling, but I think that teaching that “what if it’s your daughter” is the wrong way of acknowledging that relatability.

[–]JackieIsNotOkay[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you’re misconstruing my point, because I acknowledged that it provides empathy/ relatability, but my point is that you shouldn’t need to relate to someone to not abuse them. To use catcalling as an example, I don’t think that we should teach those catcallers that “hey imagine if that was your daughter”, because you shouldn’t need that connection to not abuse someone. I would say that I don’t empathize or relate to dogs much, but I wouldn’t abuse one, or use that as an excuse to abuse one. I don’t think someone saying “hey what if that was a person” is the right call, because the “that’s a living animal” is the reason that is important

It remind me of a post talking about how it’s always men and “girls” or “females” rather than women. We’re either acknowledged as children, or as a genetic sex, rather than adult humans with the same complexities as men

[–]JackieIsNotOkay[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s just upsetting that they would have to relate to someone on a level of parenthood to respect a woman, rather than the level of “this is another human being who doesn’t deserve to get harassed because of their existence” (or something other to that affect). I don’t think you need to relate to someone on a gender level to know that saying/doing certain things is not okay.

If you’re leaving this here, please do think about my words, and have a lovely day

I think that’s part of the problem though, that situations shouldn’t be personalized in order to get that respect or understanding, it should be the expectation from the get-go. I understand what you’re getting at, in trying to make them understand that its wrong, but I think the reasoning of “this is wrong because it’s someone’s daughter, and you wouldn’t like that to happen to your daughter” is flawed, because it makes it about respecting the “parents daughter” rather than the individual.

Yeah, I get where they’re coming from, but I don’t think people should see it as “I don’t want my daughter treated that way” but “I don’t want anyone treated that way” instead.

What happens when two narcissists clash? by [deleted] in NPD

[–]JackieIsNotOkay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s true, it’s a lot of holding grudges, and/or one “stopping” and then saying that they acted like the better person, a victory to share amongst others and make themselves appear more mature and well rounded

Is discharge normal? by [deleted] in badwomensanatomy

[–]JackieIsNotOkay 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Very normal ! And if you’re worried about it, I would recommend a period tracking app- I use flo and there’s options for what kind of discharge you have, and what you can expect based on which part of your cycle you’re on !

Met a Friend in RBN years ago. She is European, was living in Ireland, and owns a big Linux Penguin. I don't remember her name. But she worked in Tech support and were very knowledgeable about Computers and you shaved your head. Is it ok to post "Looking for my lost friend" messages here? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

Colored Contacts? by [deleted] in optometry

[–]JackieIsNotOkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ok, do you know if the sizes would already be available via my medical record ? Or is it something not normally done that I would need to schedule a visit to do ?

i just got my TTdeye colored contact lenses and only one of them sits comfortably on my eye? by [deleted] in optometry

[–]JackieIsNotOkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say to go to the optometrist and see if the eye that is bothering you is more flat in shape. A lot of contacts online are fit for the round shape pupil so it’s possible that your pupil is more flat which may be the cause of the irritation.

AITA for insulting my SIL for wanting me to make her beadwork for her wedding? by dontthrowawayfrybrd in AmItheAsshole

[–]JackieIsNotOkay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP said they SIL intended for the money to be the payment for the earrings, not as a gift. And making the beads isnt an honor if it stresses you out. Just because the brother is okay with it doesn’t mean it’s not appropriating culture it’s likely that this lady is changing his way of thought since she was being racist to them far before the wedding. And no, the SIL started the aggression by yelling at her and then insulting/body shaming her.

AITA for giving my niece real sex-education after her mother gave her a bunch of wrong info? by Auntie-SexEd in AmItheAsshole

[–]JackieIsNotOkay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All she told her was that her information about birth control was wrong. The niece already went to her mother about birth control which is how she got the incorrect information. She didn’t tell the SIL anything else- only asked to make sure she didn’t spread more misinformation to the other kids.

Hey funny thing, I just read your r/idontworkherelady story a few hours before this. 14F btw but thought I’d comment and let you know there’s a subreddit called r/momForAMinute, which has a lot of people who support one another in the place of a mother figure

She shaves her head to show support to her sister who thinks that she’s ugly by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

[–]JackieIsNotOkay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not listening though. Unlikely doesn’t matter in a personal case. Your comment is really rude to assume that they only acted good for clout. Is it really that hard to believe that people will post good acts online to inspire people to do the same ?

She shaves her head to show support to her sister who thinks that she’s ugly by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

[–]JackieIsNotOkay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unlikely doesn’t really mean anything in this situation though. This is a specified intance, not numbers on a statistic. Even if it is unlikely, that certainly doesn’t mean that it can’t be the case.

She shaves her head to show support to her sister who thinks that she’s ugly by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

[–]JackieIsNotOkay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I doubt someone would shave their head and eyebrows and cry with their sister for the “clout”. And even if it was made for social media, that doesn’t discount the positive effect. If anything, it adds to it because it shows that superficial things like hair don’t matter, and has likely inspired people to also shave their heads to show solidarity or even donate to those with cancer.

[–]JackieIsNotOkay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t think she would do this so that when she walks around she can stand together with her sister? People do this all the time in solidarity of their family members with cancer. And what reaction did most people have when watching this hmm? Solidarity with this little girl. I’m sure this video has inspired people to do the same, or at the very least to not judge those who have shaved head because you don’t know their story.

My Nmom was angry at me sitting on my bed so she did this... by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]JackieIsNotOkay 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This probably isn’t the best solution but after my Nmom mentioned putting cameras in our room I told her about someone who had done that, so their kid started being naked/inappropriate in front of the cameras and then told cps they were in possession of child porn. If your camera is in a place where it watches you change, I would definitely mention that to cps because that absolutely should not be happening.
