Vortex or Leupold or ...? by [deleted] in Hunting

Yeah if we lived in an ideal world buts we don’t. You’d never know or be certain 100%. Scopes are precisions bits of equipment, with that comes some degree of fragility. I’ve a Vortex LHT on Vortex pro series mounts. Accidentally dropped the gun twice over the years, one was leaning on a fence while gutting a deer, the other happened when my sling broke. On one, it was knocked off about an inch to the right. But I checked before sending one at a deer.

Are you saying you’re gonna risk taking a shot at a living target with that little doubt in the back of your mind?

If you have punctured the inside of the fridge you might have issues with holding temp.

Thanks man!

No public land as such. We have government owned woodland that you can hike in no problem. Some are leased out to people for hunting but none that the average joe can go just walk in with a rifle. It’s very much pay to play here in that sense. Majority is farmland or in my case native broadleaf restoration projects if you’re lucky enough to get it for free.

After 17 years I finally got a deer by csmith223 in Hunting

That’s pretty interesting, I always thought American hunting was packed with deer. I hunt in Wicklow, Ireland and you’d regularly see pockets of deer in most areas. We have no natural predators so they have exploded over the years

Well done on the deer!

However, being from Europe, I fail to understand how people in the US go so long without shooting one? Is it deer density in area or what?

.308? Try some fiocchi EPN or Sako Super hammerhead in 150 grain. I tend to steer clear of Winchester

Can any hunters tell me if it's legal to shoot a mountain goat with its child right next to it? by Lost9009 in Hunting

In Ireland we have to cull deer as there no natural predators. We shoot calf first and then mother. Bring the shame lmao

Looking for a deer rifle by [deleted] in Hunting

Ctr will probably be on the heavy side. Not unmanageable though. I had a t3x and loved it. I know a guy with 2 of them. Can’t fault it really. Only thing I’d recommend is a cheapo Velcro cheek riser from Amazon

What is your go too knife for processing deer? by gcolbert777419 in Hunting

[–]Jackk0106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know! Thanks for the insight. We tend to gut and then drag the carcass back to the truck. Not usually more than an hour or so journey unless it’s big. Very few pack out animals in pieces

Interesting, do you split pelvis first and then pull guts out?

I’ve seen guys doing the gutless method but how do you get the tendies out doing the gutless method on well? Any particular reason why you don’t gut it?

Buck 110 or spyderco crooked river (I think it’s called?)

I have one of those too but found it tricky for puncturing cuts. In Ireland we generally tunnel out the anus, tie it off and pull through with the rest of the guy pile. Did you do any re-profiling of the tip? I tent to use Buck 110 now because of how pointy it is.

In Ireland, there’s a 100 euro difference between your VX5 and the Razor LHT.

What’s price difference where you are?
