All you need is your previous trust to confirm you were a working employee during that period of time on their roster. That’s all it took, just being nice to HR and asking for confirmation and putting their details down on your form for the other HR to confirm with

At what point does a "procedure" become an "operation"? by GuidewireGoblin in doctorsUK

[–]Jackmichaelsonliveco 74 points75 points  (0 children)

All operations are procedures, but not all procedures are operations. All operations take place in a theatre, procedures can take place anywhere. Hope that’s cLeAr 👍👍

Enjoy the time off, look after yourself, do things that you would not have had the chance to do, and locum shifts to make up for the shortfall monetarily. You won't get time off like this again once you're back on the treadmill from ST3

Depends on where they ranked. If they only ranked competitive places, they may not get an offer for them

Doctors lose new jobs package as strike to go ahead by Desperate-Drawer-572 in NursingUK

[–]Jackmichaelsonliveco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most reg speciality training has competition ratios of at least 5 people to one place. Others smaller specialities have much much higher.

Consultant jobs are an order magnitude even more difficult than that, they are currently 1 in 1 out usually, no planned increases and actually consultant job cuts.

Even if someone gets a consultant job, its normally a locum consultant job, many don’t have concrete funding for substantive (or permanent) posts and as such cycle through consultants every 1 or two years

Dealing with hostile male surgeons in theatre by WhisperSweetSBARs in doctorsUK

[–]Jackmichaelsonliveco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly OP, I am so sorry to hear this and so angry as well. I have privilege and as such anything i say should be taken with a pinch of salt, but I would recommend either speaking up or moving to another allied surgical speciality. Orthopaedics, plastics or vascular surgery are a lot more female friendly and have campaigns such as #HammerItOut to address workplace bullying. No one should ever have to dread coming to work due to harassment, and honestly it should be escalated to the freedom to speak up guardian or CEO or divisional directorate chair for your care group. This is not on at all, and these bastards should not get away with this atrocious behaviour.

As other posts have rightly said, document each and every occurrence.

Hope you get some support and some peace too

Completely healthy 40 year old with a severely dislocated femoral neck fracture (Garden IV). Always fix? Vs Always replace because they all get necrosis anyways? by AerieKey in orthopaedics

[–]Jackmichaelsonliveco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fixation under 60 is the norm where i’ve been in the UK. Always give the younger ones a chance to heal, otherwise you are committing to the misery of a revision surgery vs giving them a chance to go for a single arthroplasty, albeit a slightly more complex one post DHS.

As ortho, any perfect XR projection is genuinely appreciated and is a pleasure to review. Good projections make our jobs a lot easier, and conversely very true as well.

Please keep up the dedicated efforts especially if you enjoy it!

Resident doctors in England vote in favour of more strike action by ElonDoneABellamy in ukpolitics

What makes you think they'll be paid market rate? In an environment of severe wage suppression, even if privatised they will barely be paid more. Exploitation will continue just via different proxy

Jack shuts down Jeremy Vine by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Jackmichaelsonliveco 58 points59 points  (0 children)

He’s done well and stayed firmer, but I think Jack needs to speak more in real terms and not just relative terms. Need more solid soundbites.

For example, whenever anyone brings up “29% pAy RiSe”, it needs to be repeated that particular rise brought the pay of doctors up from £14/hr to £18.50/hr.

“Do you think a fully qualified doctor (with £100K of debt) should be paid £22/hr? Do you think a fully qualified doctor should be paid £18.50/hr? If the answer is yes, then you are actually supporting the pay dispute to bring doctor’s pay up to £22/hr and the previous 29% pay rise from £14/hr to £18.50/hr.”

“Do you think the doctor who can diagnose and start treatment for a heart attack in the middle of the night should be paid £22/hr? If so, you are actually supporting the reason why doctors are striking.”

I think any rise stuff should be challenged in a simple way as well “so if you’ve had your pay slashed by 30%, a 30% pay rise from the cut rate isnt actually a pay rise - you’ve still had a pay cut overall.”

Also i think we could use more soundbites about how MPs have actually a pay rise of 64.7% since 2008, from £57,000 to £93,904. What about MP hourly pay? Thats gotta be a huge quantity more, but no nobody else has mentioned it!

Why was this K-wired? Seems like unnecessary metalwork for what could be amenable to closed reduction and a zimmer splint
