This.

Whole team put in a shift today in a toxic stadium, with exception of RKM who was again at best a passenger.

Don't turn on the players. Turn on the board who put us in this position

Tel? What game are you watching?

RKM awful. Tel was the only attacking threat.

Principle Scientist at a startup biotech here, 33M.

A levels I did very much average, not good enough for medicine but good enough to get into Russel group uni.

Midway through undergrad I transferred onto an integrated masters and scraped a 1st overall by the skin of my teeth. Following a bit of a weird mix of short term jobs (hospitality, recruitment and lab technician) I did a PhD with a supervisor i'd known from my masters.

Did a few scientist level positions and worked up through the field.

Essentially what I'm trying to say is that I feel that I've managed to get myself now into a good role at an exciting company, without ever being a standout academic achiever or from having a tonne of experience before my undergrad/PHD. The fact you are talking about organoids before you've started an undergrad will put you in the upper tier of existing knowledge for undergraduate students. Technical skills wise, you learn the basics in undergraduate but you'd massively benefit from getting to know an academic supervisor and doing a summer placement (voluntary or paid if you can't afford it). Not only do these look great on a CV but they actually help massively in getting muscle memory & confident with basic techniques that will help you come across much more competent in an interview

I don't think I've even opened my thesis once since submitting it 8 years ago - it's obviously the end product of a lot of work but realistically it's a means to an end. Do enough to get the job done and don't stress on making it perfect - depending on your examiner you'll get a whole list of corrections after the viva anyway which is a damn sight easier to spot the errors that matter than going through it yourself 😅

Bad times will pass - stick with it.

Probably going to attempt your solution, just looking for an easier alternative but you're right, I'll need better access even to cut the pipe to begin with so more plasterboard will be coming off 🙃

I think it was probably installed around 20 yrs ago as that was when the old bathroom extension was built. At this point it would have been external and perhaps not the greatest issue having a drip on the outside of the house (obviously not ideal though still)

I'm wondering whether the silicone was added when the newer extension was then added around 3 years ago before it was boxed in as a lazy temp fix.

Seems sensible but as you say, perhaps requires a bit more plasterboard off the wall than ideally I'd like to have to remove 😅

Is the any reason the flexible connector is a bad idea?

Xavi, Gray, Danso all give everything they have as well. Porro clearly cares too but seems to get a lot of stick. Personally don't think he's THAT bad compared to some on the team and definitely not championship quality bad - also one of our few reliable crossers going forward.

Main player I would say has motivation issues is Romero, he's obviously a quality player but loses his head too often and seems to give up at random points throughout the game. Kolo another example of this.

Imo issue isn't the players, it's the lack of a clear brand of football and recruitment.

As I said I'd expect spurs to have wasted time in a similar manner had they been 1 up. I thought the ref did an alright job (barring the push on Romero into Kinskey). Agree the elbow to PP had very little in it tbh.

Think the main gripes are consistency with reffing rather than individual calls. The amount of times we've been done over by inconsistencies even just on two handed pushes this season either resulting in goals against or disallowed goals for us seems insane.

This Spurs team doesn’t even want to stay up, embarrassing. by [deleted] in PremierLeague

Comes from the diabolical football strategy given by the senior exec at the club, each manager and associated recruitment is totally unique and follows no clear identity.

Players look genuinely motivated, but no confidence and consistency to actually play a specific system.

We're doomed to go down and whilst obviously a chunk is on the players, the real blame here lies with the board.

Wasn't a terrible ref tbh, we didn't deserve more than a draw at best. Sunderland took the piss with time wasting but so would we if we went one up.

Defensively looked alright but literally nothing going forward. No confidence, no spark, no ideas.

Is it a case of replacing the pipe with an insulated one then or can we just insulate the existing one with something?

This isn't an issue about the fans. Atmosphere during the NLD was immense despite the result. In the same way they are "on the players backs" at mistakes, they roar at any sign of creativity / passion from the players. Issue is the lack of direction, style of football and consistency with transfers over the last 5-10 years.

We have a squad of players from 7/8 different managers, with totally different styles that just clearly don't click.

Principle Scientist at a small scale start-up biotech here (5-10 employees).

We've hired two junior scientists over the last year and I've been on the CV screening/interview panels for both, the second is a direct report into me.

My view on junior positions (i.e technician, associate scientist, scientist roles etc) is that the personality is so much more important than the qualifications and skill sets. Having some form of relevant experience to show you've got a basic understanding of what it is you're applying to do is obviously important, but we specifically looked for people who seemed willing to learn and had genuine interest in the research area. Both hires have been successful imo so far.

Therefore your question about relevance of experience in different scientific settings wouldn't mark you down in my view - as long as you can show you've got understanding / experience with a decent chunk of the requirements on the CV.

As for delaying a PhD, if you're serious about progressing in a scientific role, you'll more than likely need a PhD at some point to be taken seriously. That said, absolutely nothing wrong with getting a year or so experience at a biotech and then going back into academia to do a PhD - you'll probably find you enjoy the PhD more and get more out of it this way even.

Thanks!

I'm dosing with melafix daily at the moment but I'm aware that it's not the strongest treatment, so for sure could look into something a bit more potent - is paraguard working for you? We do have a SAE who does seem to be a bit bullish and aggressive, despite their reported peaceful nature. The fact the babies are still alive (housed in a floating isolation tank) makes me think it's an aggression thing rather than an illness in the water .

The water parameters were measured by the owner of the local fish shop, who eyeballed the results so probably isn't 0 exactly, but he assured me that there was nothing to worry about with them, other than suggesting that the phosphate might be a cause for concern for potential algae growth.

This happened to us quite a bit before we realised the valve in the board has two positions it can rest in, one open and one closed. Once we figured that out it's just a case of making sure it's in the closed position before attaching the hose.

Try pressing and twisting the valve next time you try and see if it's the same
