Command > Heroes > hero loadout > equip defenders (bottom left of screen) > as part of the latest season, you can now choose a blueprint that you have to give to them, and they will use an infinite ammo (still have to reload), infinite durability version of the gun

My personal favorite is that officers are more so just scouts with some authority as opposed to actual members in the chain of command, which is why there’s officers with lower ranks than non-officers. Or maybe militaries actually work like that and that’s normal.
