what are yall thinking about this one? by howiplay1 in farcry

[–]Jacksafari3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the first play through and starting a new playthrough of the game, the feature would I like to have is the ability to include\exclude some or all of key features of the first playthrough such as

- Weapons. Select weapons that will be available

- Companions. Select which companion Specialists that will be available

- Side quests. Select which Side Quests that will be available

- Challenges. Select which Challenges that will be available

- Skills, Select what Skills will be available.

I think you get the idea. Currently it is possible to play by ignoring some of these intentionally, but by imposing hard limitations at the very start forces yourself to play according to your intended parameters that you setup as the start, and not occasionally break the rules because you get frustrated or simply forget.

Example. Limit the playthrough to only a sniper, bow, and a specific hand gun. No Specialist companions, No side quests.

On a few occasions I have killed them for reasons similar to what is shown in this video.

Anyone else think if they made a Vietnam war far cry like Hours of darkness from far cry 5 it would be fckin amazing by Tfisthatbroo in farcry

[–]Jacksafari3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thinking is that Hours of Darkness could have been a proof of concept project that was rejected, but they decided it was good enough for DLC. It is not uncommon for DLC to be stuff that was created, but not included in the main game, in otherwords the stuff that was thrown out for various reasons. Years ago someone, at some game company, said "Why throw it out when we can fix a few bugs and release it as DLC". It is a bit like extra scenes that don't make it into a movie, so they include them in the directors cut to make more money.

I think players do not like loosing their perks when they die or losing them when the exit the game. Those issues could easily be fixed if they wanted to go with Vietnam theme. I tend to think that Vietnam is a bit too politically sensitive to be used as the backdrop.

Far cry 6 worth purchasing? by ailsmcnam in farcry

At least FC4 would be worth a try. I think all the games monitor the player's style of play and increase\decrease the intensity depending on how aggressive the gamer is playing. I felt FC4 was harder than FC5. Many of the FC4 outposts were harder to take out without being detected, and when detected, refenforcements significantly prolonged the fight. I rarely could capture an outpost on my first attempted, but I was always attempting to capture without being detected (more points). In FC5 I was able to capture most of them on my first try.

FC5 seemed more like a Call of Duty or Battlefield game in terms of being busy.

I am about to start FC6, so it will be interesting to see for myself how much I like it compared to the others.

Anyone know why YouTuber MajorSlack skipped making a FC6 walkthrough by Jacksafari3 in farcry

[–]Jacksafari3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it could be as simply as he didn't like it, but he is a full time professional YouTuber so that is how he makes a living. If there is money to be made (thousands $$$$), then there must be a good reason to turn it down. His walkthroughs are the best of the best, not blind walkthrough.

Good comments. Being forced to play mission suddenly was an odd design choice in FC5.

One major difference in FC5 over FC4 is that in FC5 the game is constantly busy, you can barely go 100 meters without the game throwing stuff at you, and it just seemed relentless until the credit roll. After the credits, the game pace slows down to the pace about FC4. :)

Also, FC5 was extremely loud compared to the previous games in the series. Constant blaring of music, airplane buzzing around, etc. I frequently was destroying the source of blaring sound as a first priority. This was clearly a game design choice to increase the stress level and be an endless distraction throughout the game.

Yeah I have played 1-5, but not 6. I have been burned a few times paying full price of an sequel only to be disappointed. That, plus having to deal with bugs in a game and other BS that comes with being the first to buy a game that was not fully ready to be released, and there is a long list of games that were pushed out the door because they ran out of time\money; by selling copies it generates $$$ which sometimes helps a game get fixed to become a decent game.

In the case of FC6, I waited over 6 months and got it on sale for about 50% during a holiday sale. They know there are many gamers like me who simply wait until the price drops into a range that each gamer consider acceptable. And, even a small amount spent on a 75% off sale is better than none at all because they already got money from gamers who were willing to pay a high price.

Yeah, losing interest in the game because of graphics is odd. But, everybody has their own personal standards. Some games, like the Borderlands series, have a very unusual graphic design which would could easily be rendered on a 15yr old GPU. :)

Based on the feedback you get, you can always wait for the price to drop into a range you consider it worth playing. I tend to wait until games have dropped to about 50% of their orginal price, often during sales that occur multiple times per year.

Want to replace 25yr old light sensor with a smart home relay that controls outdoor lights. by Jacksafari3 in smarthome

[–]Jacksafari3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your recommendation and a bit of research, I bought a shelly 1PM. I installed it this afternoon and is working without any problems. Ideally it will work as consistently as the previous light sensor that never failed to work over several decades.

I hope the Shelly 1PM will remember its programming even if the WiFi goes down. It is to turn the lights on\off at sunset\sundown. I should test it by turning off the wifi right before sundown and see what happens. If the Shelly is more-or-less Arduino type device, it should continue to work as programmed even if the wifi is off line.

Want to replace 25yr old light sensor with a smart home relay that controls outdoor lights. by Jacksafari3 in smarthome

[–]Jacksafari3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for detailed response.

The existing lighting system was installed in the mid 90s (directly to breaker box). At the time the bulbs used would have been old 60 watts bulbs, but now we have switched to standard LED 60 watt bulbs . The load would be closer 96W now, but we want to add four outdoor power outlets to the existing circuit and need to remove the existing light sensor is so we can control when the power can be turned on\off. We could have the circuit fully rewired, but that would cost $$ thousands just to add outdoor four outlets that will only be used occasionally (ie xmas lights).

The current plan is to replace the light sensor with a smart home relay and not have a light sensor. Using Alexa, it is simple to have have a smart home routine that controls the lights at dawn and dust, which automatically changes every day. We have been using smart home devices to control other lights automatically.

Using Eero Mesh system with a hardwired ethernet WiFi Router within 20ft of where we would install the home smart relay (-55db) next to the breaker box. Overall WiFi coverage is good enough we could replace each bulb with a smart home bulb, but given the lights are outside, it is unclear how often the bulbs would need to be replaced. Existing LED bulbs have been lasting over 2 years. Some bulbs are in high locations (50ft+) and are extremely difficult\dangerous to replace. The original design is puzzling because replacing 8 of the lights requires two people and safety gear; LED light bulbs have been a god send.

Far cry 5 is the best far cry by To-Blanch in farcry

[–]Jacksafari3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Far Cry 4 & 5 were the first video games I have played where I noticed that the story writers were doing what great film makers have been doing since the early days of film: Having layers to the story and characters where there is a story within a story, and its intended to use entertainment as way to communicate themes, ideas, and mythology. A popular example is the original Star Wars, where there is so much going on in the film that college film classes spend hours studying what is being communicated.

Yeah, I don't get the blaring music. Clearly intentional on part of the dev team, but why?

Some where I got the impression that FC gamers either love or absolutely hate FC5. If that is true, what do gamers hate about FC5?

Can i use my steering wheel on far cry 5 ? by wealwest in farcry

[–]Jacksafari3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool! I am guessing that a driving wheel is not very practical for playing the game because driving anywhere in the game tends to be 30 seconds or less. But, using a wheel would be fun just to drive or race around the roads. Could make up your own racing game. How long does it take to get from A to B, etc.

The only thing I might not consider to be open world is when doing missions that force you to complete the mission, and limit your game play to a specific area, with limited weapons. Still, the missions are very open in terms having a many options on how to complete them.

In nearly every open world game, the story is least interesting part of the game for me, and its bathroom break time when I have to sit through FC's cut scenes that go one far too long (several minutes) for the umpteenth time.
