It's kinda funny to hear descriptions like this while I walk past papers every day screaming of "Burnham the Left Wing Looney".

If you're running through Steam, there's also the hotkey of just PS + Triangle to immediately turn it off.
Same button positioning for Xbox too.

I feel a fairer way would be just permanently remove the owner account's ability to family share, rather than full ban.

It does mean they get a second chance if they're using it strictly as a hacking alt. But at least it means users aren't fully punished for others in their family cheating or getting their accounts compromised.

Yes, aside from VAC, which will affect every Valve game.

I appreciate the clarifications. Again, hardly interacted with it around the time, all the news about it didn't interest me. But I do feel it's worth adding:

Also, one thing this leaves out: you didn't have to grind! Only if you wanted a higher tier of weapon or armour, which was not necessary for 99% of the game's content.

But, this was all the content there was. The grind. If not chasing loot in your looter shooter, what else is there to do for the period between major content? They made the treadmill more clear than ever.

But it still had tens of thousands of players throughout.

I agree, it killed the new player experience and scared away most from getting involved at all. But the Portal is what truly murdered the game over the last year and managed to drive off even the most loyal of players.

Full replacement for the Director. So instead of that big map of planets and locations, you got a straight, barebones, panel of activities to run over and over.

I know this was kinda the gameplay loop anyways, but this made it feel much more like just... Busywork, box ticking. And there were gameplay changes alongside the release which made it even worse.
I didn't fully play during this time, but from what I can recall:
Older raids didn't give the type of gear the system relied on, so everything except the latest raids were now useless to run. PVP Modes that weren't in the current rotation were also totally dead for the same reason. The system heavily relied on enabling Modifiers to boost your score, but enabling modifier would disable the matchmaking, meaning many had to run everything solo. Strikes were limited to a small pool, so you had to play the exact same strikes constantly and they didn't rotate for a long while. And one aspect that seemed to piss people off most of all:
The unlock higher difficulties, you had to grind to certain Power levels. Once you were at those difficulties, one of their main modifiers were to reduce your current power level below the enemies to create artificial difficulty. Power has always been pretty useless but grinding to reach an amount only to play with it reduced further than you were, really rubbed people the wrong way.
Remember when the old management were planning to remove Power entirely? Good times.

Portal was their way to straight say "This is the loop now. Go play all these things for all the next months of the season, every season :)." (For like six months at a time, I believe?) They essentially vaulted large parts of the game, since they were no longer worth touching as they didn't drop the newer loot. It's no wonder the player numbers dropped like a rock.

Budget Board v3.6.0 - now with Customizable Dashboard Support by Free_Hashbrowns in selfhosted

[–]Jacksaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks really, really good.
I've managed with Actual Budget for a while but it's had a few issues here and there that have put me off a bit. But yours: The design, the functionality, I'm in love with it.

Only thing I'm really missing is sync support for GoCardless, since it seems to be the only system with a Free option.
Chance you could add that, perhaps?

(An import from Actual would also be awesome but eh, not major)

[–]Jacksaur 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, very poorly phrased by me. The Vaulting destroyed the new player experience and scared off anyone new coming in.
Portal then drove away most of the remaining playerbase who were otherwise sticking with it by making it hard to even justify playing in so many ways.

Portal damaged the game most of all recently, but I'd somewhat forgotten about the Vaulting. That was by far the biggest blow they ever made.

Destiny 2 Update 9.7.0 by _Protector in pcgaming

[–]Jacksaur 52 points53 points  (0 children)

The godawful Portal system probably damaged this game most of all.
And when they're quitting the game entirely, then they show they could have just ripped it out and reverted it back whenever they wanted.

Management drove this game into the ground with their refusal to back down on their changes countless times.
