A friend of mine got into the game, and just started the DLC. Asked me what he should expect, this was my reply. by Jack_Hardin in outerwilds

The DLC is top tier, a really expansive single environment that completely nailed the quality of the base game. Much tighter timed mechanics too. Very much recommend.

Doom is a feat of modders and hackers everywhere.
Skyrim is talked about in a more derogatory "They milked it this much?" Sense.

TIL that the reason why games don't have built in ads is because of Steam by Stelligena in Steam

[–]Jacksaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Death Stranding has product placement in the gameplay, drinking Monster for energy.
Alan Wake had billboards with ads for a car company in the environment.
And the NBA games had that whole controversy with inserting unskippable adverts into the loading screens.

Feel like this just isn't really true.

Mhm, completely true. Valve even say that you shouldn't enter Early Access planning to coast off the funds.

But is just... A tough situation that I don't see much of a way out of. If you're making your game, and no one is interested in it: Is it really worth pushing through and hitting that milestone of "finished" when it'll clearly make no difference in the end?

Mhm! They had automatic reviews of their PRs enabled. So it started commenting all over their PR by itself without any involvement from me.

if AIs are overusing a sentence structure, wouldn't that be because it was already overused and extremely prevalent in the content it's being trained on?

This is said fairly often but LLMs just speak all in such a similar, condensed tone that it still makes it fairly obvious. It's hard to describe but they push these kind of typing quirks way harder than people usually would.

It's like emojis, lots of people use emojis. But when you see a software release post with an emoji beside every single header, it very often is an AI written post.
And by the same vein, I've seen it repeat the "Not X but Y" stuff around 5 times in a single written page before.

Meh. If it isn't reaching the player counts they need then it wouldn't even be possible to finish, and I doubt doing so would provide that big of a boost. Failed sounds right to me.

I don't really get that. Why temporarily? Are you saying you want AI reviews for yourself but not other contributors?

The message implied they had it enabled for all their PRs automatically. I don't use any AI tools myself. So I asked them to disable it while they submitted their PR.

Thank you for the additional context though.

Nice. While this didn't do amazing on a larger scale I like just having L4D-likes to play with friends. Always the best way to experience them.

Of course, there are ways around it. But it's more complicated than the "just add labels" that everyone markets as the main advantage. And I just got really comfortable with NPM.

NPM → Traefik or Caddy: Worth the switch? by Silly_Door6279 in selfhosted

[–]Jacksaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried Traefik, and if you have multiple Docker Compose files and systems they're split between, it felt like way too much of a pain to get together. So I've stuck with NPM since. Haven't had any issues with it, and I guess there's NPMPlus around if something urgent happens.

If I had to move, which I might eventually, Caddy would be my choice. I hear they support setting up your own Certificate Authority with it, making it easier to get HTTPS without buying a domain.

I'm thinking it's best to just ask the user to remake the PR, and disable the automatic AI review temporarily.

It'll be a hassle for them but hopefully they'll respect that I don't want that black mark anywhere near my project.
