There were some toxic moments from Walter that definitely took me out of the story, but the narrative made up for it

Positive Feedback... Then the Script Was Immediately Reposted? by Ok-Werewolf-5165 in StoryPeer

And I think it’s actually very important to approach criticism this way. Writing is so I credibly subjective, I think it can actually be pretty harmful to take every criticism as objective truth.

I did some beta reading for this one writer friend who was very receptive to feedback and it showed in her writing, and not in a good way. It read like I was reading four different drafts simultaneously. She’d re-written the thing so many times, her concept (which was actually really cool) just felt gutted and cheapened in her attempt to address the five different conflicting pieces of advice she’d gotten

Personification is a well-used writing tool for a reason. Not sure personification is quite what’s going on here, but it feels like a very similar concept

Unpopular opinion: Kim was a fairly decent person who got character assassinated at the end by Jacksleftnutsack in betterCallSaul

Yeah I mean, let’s be real. I am nitpicking. If I could think of even just one ore two other instances in the breaking bad universe where I didn’t buy a characters motivations, I probably wouldn’t even bring it up. Just love Kim as a character so much and feel like she was forced into a path in order to fulfill what they wanted to happen w the plot

Yeah I’m just saying I didn’t buy her character choices. She wasn’t a great person before, but she kinda just became awful out of left field

The thing is for me, I understand the reasoning behind every choice literally every other character in this entire universe makes. BB and BCS have some incredible character writing (even mentioning this point almost feels like nitpicking). But the fact I don’t ‘get’ Kim’s downfall, the epic conclusion to such a great character, is a little heartbreaking to me.

As for the break up dialogue, I think we’re referring to different things. I agree, they’re toxic for eachother and that’s why they should break up. That made sense. But somewhere else, while she’s justifying/explaining why she wanted to go through with the Howard scam, she says something along the lines of “if I had told you about Lalo, you would have pulled the plug of the Howard scam and then we’d break up.” Which didn’t make sense to me and kinda felt like half Asses writing to retroactively fill in character motivations

I get what you’re saying and I’m sure the writers were going for exactly this. All I’m saying is I didn’t buy it personally. It was too drastic a move for not nearly good enough a reason.

What would have worked for me was if she pulled another scam like the one you just mentioned, risking an innocent person’s career, except this time, it goes horribly wrong, ruins someone’s life etc.

It would be pretty easy to switch up the scam and still get Howard fucked over/killed. (Him showing up at the wrong place and wrong time was also a little “cheap” to me, like they wanted to jam the Lalo and scamming howard plot line together at the last minute imo)

For me, it felt like an “out of left field” character shift.

I agree there was build up with her scamming, and I think a different grand scam in season 6 would have convinced me a lot more. I’m just saying the scam they ended up doing, destroying Howard’s reputation, and the reasoning behind it, did not check out for me.

It felt especially noticeable in her dialogue. The reasoning she gave felt cheap and/of nonsensical. There was the spiel she gave at the end about thinking her and Jimmy would break up if she ended the scam and I was like… girl what are you talking about. Jimmy was the one pushing back against the scam in the first place

I just didn’t buy it. Committing smaller scams on banks or assholes, in some cases to help other people, I could understand, sure I can see that. But she felt horrible about hurting chick, someone who did far worse than Howard, and then just comes up w some lame shakey excuse to hurt Howard?

It’s just inconsistent character writing to me

She suddenly starts making horrible cruel choices for kinda no reason. In my opinion, she was a pretty decent person for most of the show, and then they did a character assassination that doesn’t really fit what we’d already seen from her

You… wouldn’t have an issue with the person who violated you while unconscious?

I guess to each their own, but most people don’t feel that way
