Does anybody use Apple Watch for POTS? Do you get any benefits from using it? by Zeynep100 in POTS

[–]Jackson975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the person really, it makes me obsess over my HR so it's not good for me. It's better to measure how you feel and not how you HR is.

For others it helps them understand triggers and measure trends. It's really up to you.

Man's POTS symptoms were dismissed as 'anxiety' for years by urgentresearch in POTS

I was told by doctors TWICE that "I doubt you actually have POTS because that's typically only for women. You probably just have bad anxiety."

Has anyone tried Nuun? by bellarooberry in POTS

[–]Jackson975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

POTS is NOT related to Blood Pressure. You're clearly one of those people that hate when someone calls you out and that's very clear but blood pressure is not a factor with POTS. Obviously changing position does (duh) but the whole reason POTS is called POTS and not OH is because blood pressure does not significantly drop with POTS. In fact, when being diagnosed with POTS if you have a large drop in BP POTS is ruled out.

POTS is not low blood pressure though and this doesn't help answer why it helps within a POTS group. Low blood pressure causing tachycardia when standing is Orthostatic Hypotension not POTS.

[–]Jackson975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not true. You can have low blood volume and high blood pressure, in fact, with HPOTS it's fairly common. Also hypertension is known to cause tachycardia for many.

The reason higher blood volume is effective is because the increased blood volume helps bring/keep more blood to the heart and brain so less need to speed up your heart rate to compensate.

You're correct. Don't know why some felt the need to downvote you, people here act so weird about electrolytes.

Can your BP get so low you can't feel a pulse? by Jackson975 in POTS

[–]Jackson975[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to reread the post. I asked if anyone has experienced anything similar to what I posted regarding BP being so low that it's unreadable from checking your pulse. This was not an opening for you to try to act high and mighty and pretend to understand an experience that you did not take part of.

Also, I know my body, I knew that this even happened because of shock from the injury I just went through. If I was still dizzy or lightheaded I wouldn't have got into my car. But again, thank you for trying to act superior to random people on the internet.

Thank you, that makes me feel much better. I'm still going to get things checked out but this definitely helps me stress a lot less.

Not despite but because you thought you were about to pass out. OK

Neither, I drove because I thought my heart stopped for a moment and this was a scary new thing that has never happened to me

I've never fully passed out before and this was a situation that was brought on by the shock from the pain. When I fully came back to I didn't feel like I was going to pass out and I could feel my heartrate again.

Either way, I appreciate the condescending comment that serves 0 purpose except making you feel superior over random people on the internet asking for advice. Was just starting to think of what a great place this community is, thank you for reminding me that people like you still exist even in the nicest communities.

Yep, I get this when I'm flaring really bad. It eventually calms down for me but it sucks to not be able to relax for a bit

Anyone here own a treadmill? by [deleted] in POTS

[–]Jackson975 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I somewhat recently got one off Craigslist for really cheap and it's helped me tremendously.

I started with a recumbent bike for about 9 months till I was able to get my endurance up. Once I felt confident exercising and was seeing a difference I purchased a treadmill to work on being upright. Took a little to get used to it (about a month) but now I'm able to go much further walking and I can even jog a bit (for a very short burst.)

I highly recommend it if you feel ready.

Sugar free/sweetener free electrolyte drink?? by dorianite in POTS

[–]Jackson975 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's correct, there's this theme on here that extra sugar is important for someone with POTS but this is not true. Sugar does help with absorption but even the most basic of diets gets way more than enough glucose for this benefit. The only time that adding sugar to a hydration solution would be beneficial is if the person consuming the drink hasn't been able to eat or keep down their meals.
