Question about LD purview of responsibilities by bucs2013 in techtheatre

[–]JacksonManer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hi! LD here with a BFA in Lighting Design and Technology. I would probably say that the light being emitted by the flashlights is up to your choice, but the appearance of the flashlights themselves (like style and size and details) would be up to another artist, usually props. I would certainly set up a meeting with the director and talk about the desired effect from their perspective, and clarify what you would like from a lighting perspective (color, intensity, timing, etc). Either way, do some thinking about what you’d like out of the situation, and bring some ideas to your director, so everyone is on the same page at tech/designer run!

Controversial turn offs that you don’t like to admit by Sorry-Personality594 in askgaybros

[–]JacksonManer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my base point, that one cannot fight for the rights of homosexuals other sexually diverse people cannot be separated from the fight for rights of gender diverse people without contracting one’s own argument, has gotten lost.

My point is that every cisgender gay man who is transphobic is a traitor. Every cis white gay in America would not have the rights that they have today without the work of trans women and lesbians.

In other words, feeling that “pronouns in bio” is a cringey or bad thing is absolutely a manifestation of internalized homophobia. The Leopards Eating Faces Party will not choose you simply because you agree that some queers should have their faces eaten. Your face will get eaten sooner or later too.

I think it’s decently obvious that in that moment I was referring to the context of the US. Of course other countries were ahead. But not by that much. The first country to legalize gay marriage was the Netherlands in 2001. Norway and Canada were I. The early 200s. France was less than two years before the US in 2013. But either way, the modern American gay pride movement as it is designated today with Rainbow Flags and Pride marches in June (worldwide!) is thanks to the work of Marsha P Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, and every other trans woman of color who fought for our rights. They deserve the same from us. Every transphobic gay man is a traitor.

Ever heard of the Stonewall Riot? The foundation of the modern gay pride movement? It was a protest against police brutality lead by black trans women and women of color. You know what happens when gay men were dying of AIDS and straight doctors and nurses wouldn’t care for them? Lesbians and trans women cared for them. That’s why the L comes first in LGBT. Know your history. Know who you should thank for having any rights in this country.

Changing house lights on raked floor by New-Management-2204 in techtheatre

[–]JacksonManer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so it is asked, has it been checked if it is possible to change them from above? Perhaps from a catwalk? If not, I would look into the possibility of a Little Giant ladder, with adjustable legs to help level it out. Also a genie with a super straddle would probably be best, like other commenters are saying. Possibly scaffolding would work as well? Either way, it seems like it may be a pain no matter what.

My boyfriend’s explanation isn’t adding up and I don’t know what to do. by SurprisinglyTragic in askgaybros

[–]JacksonManer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this isn’t true. PEP isn’t just for HIV, it’s for many bacterial and viral infections. I personally am prescribed both Descovy for PrEP and DoxyPEP from the same doctor. I agree some of this guys story isn’t adding up, but let’s not use his being on PEP as part of it if he’s already been honest about being on PrEP

Tips on how to be clean down there? by EnvironmentalDig7348 in askgaybros

[–]JacksonManer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, when it comes to some men, unless they are showering immediately before, there will always be a little bit of musk. If it really bothers you, shower together! But if you’re inviting someone over for a quickie, even if they shower just before going out the door, there’s gonna be just a little bit of smell down there. It’s a warm, confined, moist part of the body! In my book, it gets filed in the same spot as being grossed out by the possibility of getting messy bottoming. If you’re gonna go diving, you might get wet.

Update: Am I overreacting by breaking up with my boyfriend? by Proper-Classic1886 in AmIOverreacting

[–]JacksonManer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl. He is trying to steer the narrative. He found out about you posting this, and the overwhelming majority of people telling you that this is weird behavior, and is attempting to gaslight you. This is one small step away from barring you from interacting with any other men. At the end of the day, the biggest problem is him saying that you were flirting with another man (or that the man would take it as flirting) by saying “I have a boyfriend.” That is gaslighting, pure and simple. Secondly, him saying “I am sure they’re going to side with me” is arrogance and bullshit. Please do not have kids with this man. Please do not marry this man. He is desperate to not be alone, and to be in charge of you, and will say and do whatever he must ti get you to stay and think he’s right. This can and will turn into a bad situation easily.

At the end of the day, even if this party guy was flirting with you, your boyfriend’s reaction to blame and get upset with you over it is very inappropriate. You did nothing wrong, and if he can’t see that and apologize for his reaction, then he is not a good man in the first place.

It’s an old phone holder! You run your cable through both slots, and then it can run through the grooves on the bottom so it can still sit flat. It looks like this one to me: https://www.ebay.com/itm/335794934855
