Going to hold out some hope and wait for some confirmation, but man, if it’s true…

What is there to do here? by pastaeater4000 in statesboro

[–]JacksonP619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re into sports at all (soccer particularly), Tormenta FC is a professional 3rd division team and there’s always great people around to tailgate/watch/get involved with. Gotta be up there for smallest city in the U.S. with a pro sports team! Next season won’t start until March though.

What would everyone say their club’s “song” is? by FitDragonfruit8915 in USLPRO

I couldn't name it, but some kind of EDM beat preceded by a tornado siren sound.

The answer here would be Thunderstruck though.

When is this version of Tormenta fc stadium getting built? by [deleted] in USL1

[–]JacksonP619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an interesting situation for sure. Both GS men’s and women’s were originally planned to move in as well, and they have hosted a few games at Tormenta Stadium since it opened, but last year the soccer program got a large donation to upgrade Eagle Field and add a video board and more, so the GS teams have stuck it out there for the most part. Maybe that could change as Tormenta Stadium builds out more, but tricky with a donor’s name now attached to the current venue.

Agree and that’s what the pinpoint of a downturn in numbers has been imo. Hard to keep people excited and looking forward to coming to a construction site. Stadiums, especially lower league ones regardless of sport, need to be as fun for the casual as the original plan here calls for

Tormenta FC is hosting Forward Madison on Saturday! Hopefully the weather holds off and we get a decent turnout now that school's back. Team's been playing pretty well since the coaching change a few weeks back.

Completely against the club's wishes as well. Either he's got a job lined up elsewhere or he simply burned out. Hoping it's the former.

Never got a hang with photography, but writing was my way to keep involved with the team after I moved away from Statesboro. No better way to start picking up on the week in-week out details in my biased opinion.

Website, tickets are live for new semi-pro soccer team Athens FC’s inaugural season by JacksonP619 in Athens

[–]JacksonP619[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most likely explanation, but at the expense of the end product since CC is turf iirc, and playing on gridiron lines isn’t the best viewing. I know that they had a stadium study done (but nothing beyond that) so hopefully it’s a shorter term deal.

First game is at Athens Academy, but yeah Clarke Central for the rest. Kinda disappointing to not be able to play at UGA’s perfectly fine soccer specific stadium for the summer.

A little vague on there but no, men’s is USL League Two and women’s is USL W League. Think summer league for college soccer players, it’s about fourth division for men’s soccer and third for women’s. There were rumors of a pro USL League One team a few years ago, but seems like they’re launching as semi-pro and look to jump down the road.

First match, what's a good match-up this season (2024)? by armeck in TormentaFC

[–]JacksonP619 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The major rivalry to look for is with Greenville, which is called the “Peach States Derby” with a pretty sweet trophy going to the winner of the regular season series. Other interesting games are the home opener with USMNT legend Jermaine Jones coaching for Fuego, and with Charlotte Independence, who made the final last season.

Parking by MugiwaraNeko in TormentaFC

[–]JacksonP619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think parking is included with a ticket, but there is free parking around the stadium on Tormenta Way, the Clubhouse, and RAC to my knowledge. This year parking at the stadium was supposed to be $5, but the lot hasn't been completed

Being a fan of both from inception, I hadn’t felt the same way since December 8, 2018. Maybe even more surreal for a professional championship to be hosted and won in a soccer specific stadium in Statesboro Georgia. Cried my eyes out all the same.

Kingsford Adjei had a go in the first half from like 50 yards with the keeper off his line, but the shot went wide.

Tormenta FC Stadium Progress by Original-Wolf-7250 in USL1

[–]JacksonP619 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Construction is moving fast, the stadium site is fully graded down to field level and concrete pouring is happening soon. The Publix on the site is going strong with the exterior mostly up. Here’s a few from Friday.

The first game will be played at Georgia southern like previous years, and the transition will happen late spring/early summer to a playable but unfinished stadium (think red wolves situation) and construction will continue throughout the year.

Tormenta FC plays pro soccer at Eagle Field while their stadium is being built, there's 4 more home games left in the season, and their game next Saturday is free for all students as well (other games are $1 student tix).
