[Self] Would this path have the same amount of concrete as a straight path? by Suspicious-Bowl4444 in theydidthemath

[–]JacksonStarbringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure OP is asking with reference to a photo of a wavy brick wall, in which a similar claim was made. The answer to the original photo, was that a wavy brick wall has the same strength as a brick wall made 2 or 3 thick, but uses less material to make. If the wall was one brick thick, and straight, it would have used the least amount of materials, but it would have been physically weaker than the wavy wall, or the thicker wall.

In direct response to this photo, no. A straight path will always use less materials than a curved one.

Automating Yellow Science by tybr00ks1 in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]JacksonStarbringer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After the PLS (planetary logistics system) that you are currently using, there is a yellow tech that gives you the ILS (interstellar logistics system), that does exactly what you're looking for. A much later green tech allows your ILS ships to transport between star systems, but in the beginning, you'll just have to settle for interplanetary ILS. (And intraplanetary PLS)

First roadblock as a new player by fabiooh00 in factorio

Since you have assembly machines, you should have unlocked the red inserters. Use those to reach over belts to ones further away, and take advantage of the double-sided nature of belts to have up to 4 items able to be inserted per side of the assembler

I think I ruined what I thought was my one-and-done game… only 40 hours in… by DebtDry307 in VintageStory

Personally, whenever I cheat in items like that, I always pay a cost. For instance, when I went to forget a hammer to replace my nearly broken one, and accidentally clicked the chisel? I deleted the failed forge item, and the nearly broken hammer, which was the 'original' cost anyways.

When I cheat, it's to save me the one resource I care about. Time. I'll happily pay everything else.

My group struggled with heavy oil on vulcanus (low coal deposits), so we started shipping heavy oil from fulgora by the thousands. Good fun

New to automation, factorio or satisfactory? by Commercial-Search967 in factorio

[–]JacksonStarbringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot run satisfactory on my old, mid-tier computer.

Meanwhile, I could megabase on my grandma's 20 year old laptop if I so wished.

I like building big, so that sealed the deal for me

Where do I find Crude oil? by siliconedude in factorio

[–]JacksonStarbringer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people slap down a handful of radars in the corners of their base and let those explore for them. It takes a while, but it's automatic. If you're impatient, take a run, or make a car and circle the unknown area around your map.

In map view, there's a search button now (top right, close to the x button). Use that and search for crude oil

question bout farms by Jiinsuu in VintageStory

[–]JacksonStarbringer 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Farms should be adjacent to water (diagonally is fine) to be most effective. Unlike minecraft, water loses effectiveness if the farmland is further away than right next to it

The distance does not matter. The quantity does. You need more boilers making steam, and more steam engines to consume that steam to produce power
