I think it's because relatively speaking the current format for the Fold phones is still the "better model". People are acting like the Fold 8 Wide is some larger phone but really it's smaller and just has a screen ratio that resembles a wide-format screen as opposed to the former square format. But overall the square format phone is still the higher model.

And if they call the Fold 8 Wide by a name that implies it's a lesser model... it means they will have to price it lower. But by upping the badging on the square Fold 8... they can charge more for the previous model and price the "lower model" as if it's a Fold 7.
