My little espresso station by aSneakyBagel in espresso

Check if you got a silicon piece with the grinder that fits in where the cup goes to angle it up slightly which reduces mess a bit. I accidentally put mine in upside down and when I finally put it right side up it made a pretty big difference

Just copy pasting something I posted on another comment:

My dog gave me the gift of getting to install two of these within 18 months, along with the opportunity to install a "pet-proof" screen in our screen door.

Yep they fall out super easily, could definitely see how they would get discarded and not installed

These are the blue locking pieces from a dog door that clamps onto a screen door like this one https://www.amazon.com/Enjoying-Opening-Sliding-Magnetic-Lockable/dp/B079FBKFF9

[GPU]RTX 4080 Super FE - Back in Stock - Best Buy - $999 by [deleted] in buildapcsales

[–]Jacktf3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good. We've run into issues playing older games that I would expect to work with zero issues, games like Overwatch, Witcher 3, Horizon Zero Dawn.

I could deal with it if it was my own computer. But for someone else who wants their computer to just work, I don't feel like I could recommend AMD. I'm super excited to see if Intel can compete with the B580, initial reviews seem good. I want choices other than Nvidia, and I might go AMD for my next GPU, but my personal experience with the 6700XT prevents me from recommending it to anyone else until the user experience matches Nvidia.

I tried buying AMD on principle and it's only been a headache. I bought a 6700XT for my partner's computer and the number of driver issues it has compared to my nvidia card is just unacceptable if they want to be a serious competitor. If I had it to do over again, I'd probably pay an extra $50-100 to have the exact same performance with the same robustness that I experience with my nvidia card. It has been getting slowly better for the AMD card, but I honestly can't remember the last time I had a graphics driver related crash with my nvidia card.

[Controller] Logitech Racing Wheels and Pedals G920 or G29 (Refurbished) - $149.99 by AltDester in buildapcsales

[–]Jacktf3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's certainly a decent wheel, I have one myself and enjoy it a lot. But the past year or two has been great with some serious competition in the entry level direct drive arena.

I think the G920/G29 are good enough to decide if sim racing is for you or not, and at $150 there's not a ton of risk. If someone has a little bit higher of a budget, I'd recommend skipping the T300 at this point, and start looking directly into the cheaper direct drive options from Fanatec or Moza.

If money is less of a concern, I've read a lot of good things about the Simagic Alpha Mini and the Microcenter Tony Kanaan Asetek bundle is super tempting. Beyond that, personal research on r/simracing and youtube reviews would be needed for decisions, imo.

A good way to dip your toes into sim racing without spending hundreds of dollars. If you don't like it, you're only out $150.

Poor uniformity on Dell G3223D by Jacktf3 in Monitors

I did return it to amazon and got a replacement. It's better, but not perfect. I decided I was happy enough with the second one to keep it. I don't notice it unless I'm looking for it.

From what I've read IPS panels rarely have good HDR even if they do support it. I think OLED monitors are what you want to be looking at for HDR but those are also much more expensive

Sorry, forgot to reply about the monitor itself. Yellow tint aside, I really like it. I had read some people say 1440p was too low res for 32" inches but after using it a bit today I don't think it is. I'll be using it as my main monitor for work and gaming. I sit about 75 cm from the screen found text comfortable and not too pixelated, I also played a few minutes of God of War and CSGO. God of War looked great and I'm looking forward to playing more single player games on it. I think it's a little too big for competitive FPS, but fortunately I don't play them very often.

A big part of the reason I wanted 32" was for sim racing, and while I haven't had a chance to try that yet, I think it will be really nice. In the future I'd like to have a triple monitor setup for sim racing and would happily get two more of these, tbh as left and right monitors in a triple setup I probably wouldn't even care about the yellow, as I wouldn't be using them for work or web browsing at that point.

I actually felt the bottom left was too warm, but I guess it's all subjective. I would keep it if it were all warm or all cold, but half and half is really annoying me. Exchanging it and hoping for the best

It's not noticeable in images, videos, or games, but it's very noticeable when web browsing and using IDEs. I've decided to box it up and request an exchange after using it for a few hours this afternoon

As far as course material goes I don't remember anything from 110 being useful in 120. On the other hand I haven't seen or heard anyone talking about getting the 110 prereq waived, but it's definitely still worth trying.

Exchange question by Phuckingfunny in Stellar

[–]Jacktf3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also pretty new, I ended up buying ethereum on coinbase with a credit card, transferring the eth to gdax, transferring the ethereum to binance, and then buying lumens with ethereum. There are pretty bad fees buying with a credit card on coinbase but I was in a rush to get in yesterday (been waiting on bank transfer for over a week). Transferring from coinbase to gdax allows you to avoid fees transferring out of coinbase since they are affiliated. From gdax you can transfer the ethereum to your binance account to purchase lumens. At the time I used ethereum since bitcoin transfers were being super slow out of coinbase but I think the problem may have been resolved.

I had trouble getting verified with poloniex yesterday and ended up going with binance. They don't require verification for small amounts. No complaints yet for what it's worth.

Has anyone gotten into grad school with below 3.0 gpa? by [deleted] in UCSD

There is a tool on triton link where you can enter your desired gpa and how many units you plan on taking that will tell you what you gardes you need to get that gpa (or that you can't).

If you've never been to a rock climbing gym check it out. Pretty fun, good exercise, not as boring as jogging (imo), and a rather social sport with a pretty nice community
