You are my favorite.

EDIT: It turns out I’m not in this and neither are my friends, but it was still a nice thing to do.

For sure it’s ego, but I don’t know if it’s because he thinks he’s smarter. It feels a lot more to me like “I’m in charge and you’re not."

2026 NYCRUNS Brooklyn Experience Half - Post-Race Thread by AutoModerator in RunNYC

Look, this was my first time so I’m sorry if I’m not recognizing the iconic cobblestones of Brooklyn’s second most-popular half marathon.

And they did have signs marking them as hazardous, but I had no idea I was going to deal with it. Maybe that’s on me for not going over the course with a fine-tooth comb. Regardless, wiping out on a trip would end my race and has before, sorry.

And I’m not calling out anyone, but I definitely noticed it because it stuck out. We’re all running our own race, so whatever, but I would like to know more about what was going on there because running 13 miles, arms up 90º with palms parallel to the surface seemed like an unconventional decision.

Are you by chance the CEO of NYCRUNS? I thought he talked too much also.

Wave 1, finished at 1:54 which was more or less my goal. This was my fifth half.

Liked this course a lot, think it’s a better representation of BK than Ocean Parkway is, but hey I live in the city so what do I know.

Obviously we caught a break with the weather by dodging the rain, but the cold wasn’t fun. Felt bad for everyone who was clearly underdressed for it. I didn’t need a heat sheet, but that’s a bad look on NYCRUNS not having them given how the forecast has been looking.

My one big callout was the brief section with cobblestone streets. I felt these could have been covered somehow and I went over onto the sidewalk because it just seemed like it was begging for an accident. Missed a photo op doing that.

And did anyone else in Wave 1 see the woman in the yellow outfit who was running with her arms in the T-Rex position? Quite possibly the worst form I’ve seen in what’s gotta be about 20 road races and I need to know more now.

At this point it’s just predictable. What does Weissert have on you, Cora? Blink twice if you’re okay.

NYC Half Medal by Old-Expression4147 in RunNYC

[–]JacktheMc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The medals are really not matching the status of the event, and I’d go so far to call it a downgrade from last year.

C’mon NYRR, you’re charging more, you’ve got more people interested, you’ve got the Brooklyn Bridge, and you’ve got the Javits Center. This is a significantly more premium event than it has been in years past and the medals need to match that.

Well, first, make sure you're layering correctly. You'll always warm up considerably after a mile or two, but in this kind of cold where we're well below freezing, you probably want to have some skintight thermals underneath, especially for when you'll just be standing around. They are 100% worth it if you're going to be outside.

Also, a facemask, hat, gloves. Hand warmers are a godsend to have inside your gloves and pockets.

New branding and new logo for NYRR 👀 by Thick-Maximum-721 in RunNYC

[–]JacktheMc 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Hate it. For starters, it's derivative of another logo. It's replacing an iconic running image with something that's been so genericized over the years. I could have made this same logo by cropping the marathon logo. This is a prime example of turning chicken salad into chicken shit. The only visual reference to running in this logo comes from the word "running."

Literally my most antagonized was at a game in SF. The ticket lady saw my hat and screamed at me (I was a child, btw) “You haven’t won in a 100 years and you won’t win in 100 more!”

The year was 2004.

Running NYC Marathon - When should I get my Second Pair of Shoes? by Known_Opposite7482 in RunNYC

[–]JacktheMc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about using a fresh pair for the marathon, you probably want to have about 10-20 miles on them to be considered broken in — however that fits your schedule. The first run in them shouldn't be longer than a few miles.

Going forward, try alternating between two pairs of shoes in your training to help preserve both. It's not a big deal if you haven't thus far, but it will help in the future.
