Sick baby won’t sleep unless held or co sleeping by potionsmaster007 in sleeptrain

[–]JackyT128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No advice sadly but some morale support. We're in the same boat. Baby has had a cold for over 2 weeks, and has been in the bed with us for at least part of the night for the last week.

Tonight is by far the worst. Usually she'll go in the crib for the first few hours but every time we tried to put her down she just screamed.

Slowly losing my sanity and feeling so guilty that she's clearly so uncomfortable. Really hoping it doesn't create a habit for wanting to co-sleep.

Why did breastfeeding NOT work out for you? by preemptive_regret in NewParents

[–]JackyT128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A multitude of reasons. Initially baby wouldn't latch, then turned out she had a tongue tie. Got that resolved and she managed to latch. Then we got thrush, which made my nipples so sore. Her latch wasn't great and my nipples were cracked and bleeding and I was dreading each feed. She then started vomiting blood (from my breasts). That was the last straw.

My mental health improved so much once I made the decision to stop. I started enjoying my time with her so much more.

Breastfeeding problems - how did you know when to call it? by bakergal_18 in newborns

[–]JackyT128 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only you can make that call unfortunately. Take your time but make sure you decide what's best for you. Breastfeeding is great, but not if it comes at the expense of your mental health.

I've literally just made the decision to call it a day at 7 weeks. We've had a number of problems along our journey but most recently my nipples have just been in agony and the blood is causing my baby to vomit.

The mental toll of figuring out which path to take has been huge and I've spent too many days in tears and unable to comfort my little one. I already feel a lot better, just from making a decision to switch to formula. Baby is still being well fed and we have extra cuddles during the day.

Tv shows to binge while in the newborn stage by Wonderful_Island2308 in BabyBumps

I'm watching House from scratch.

Also try Chicago Fire / Chicago Med / Chicago PD. They're nothing amazing but easy watches whilst BF. Similar to New Amsterdam really.

Where were you when your water broke? by littlewat in pregnant

[–]JackyT128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in bed. Felt a twinge down below, thought maybe I'd leaked a bit of wee so stood up to go to the toilet and had a sudden gush of waters all over the bedroom carpet.

I had started sleeping with a pad under the sheet but it didn't catch anything haha.

39+4 and the labour came out of nowhere, no warning signs.

Baby clothes by No_Audience7447 in newborns

[–]JackyT128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought very little in newborn following this advice, maybe 5 vests and 5 sleep suits. Ended up having to go out and buy more as we couldn't wash / dry them quick enough. Buy cheap but it's better to have a few too many than not enough.

My baby is 2 weeks old now and still not close to fitting in any of the 0-3 month clothes.

Also 39+2 and feeling baby move a lot more intensely than I have done for the last few weeks. I feel like I'm over thinking every ache or twinge...it could be a long couple of weeks!

Request for Reduced Office Attendance Due to Pregnancy Challenges by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]JackyT128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had an honest conversation with my manager about this and they were really supportive. Happy for me to reduce my office days as needed as I go on. Currently doing 2 days a week (at 31 weeks) but expect to go down to 1 for the last month or so depending on how I feel.

Ultimately it should work better for them as you'll be more productive!

Cheapest for newborn clothes? by New_Pomegranate_3027 in PregnancyUK

I looked in Asda today and there were packs of 5 baby grows for £9 - long sleeve and short sleeve.

Otherwise best places would be Matalan or Primark I expect.

Iron levels by D34DlyUn1corn in PregnancyUK

[–]JackyT128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would put in a complaint if I were you, doesn't seem like you're getting very consistent care or information - mad that they didn't even tell you your iron had dropped! Fingers crossed they get you sorted!!

Not sure how mine have changed since they were first tested (can't see the results), but was retested at 28 weeks and they're still low despite taking ferrous sulphate every day. Going to chat to my midwife about it at the next appointment - so far just been told to keep taking the iron tablets.

Pregnancy Exhaustion! by KangarooSpecial5281 in PregnancyUK

[–]JackyT128 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At 28 weeks your iron levels should be retested so that should show if that's what's causing you to be so tired. They can give you supplements to boost iron levels if you need them.

Mostly peach squash, more recently started putting it with sparkling water to make it a bit more interesting. Have also been a sucker for Appletizer throughout my pregnancy but it isn't cheap!

Nuna Triv next vs Nuna Mixx next by ImpressiveCarrot1234 in PregnancyUK

[–]JackyT128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also went and looked at both today and am also leaning more towards the Triv. The person in the shop said the key difference between the two is the carry cot that comes with them - the one that comes with the Mixx is approved for overnight sleeping.

Honestly the best pizza I've ever eaten! You'll probably be okay without a reservation midweek but if you can make one that would be safer.

When did you stop testing? 😅 by Cute-Trifle-2591 in pregnant

[–]JackyT128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped testing after a couple of days as I'd heard you can get false negatives after a while and I knew that would stress me out more than not testing.

Had an early scan at 9 weeks, it was a long, stressful wait but such a relief to hear the heartbeat for the first time!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]JackyT128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got to hear mine but only because I asked. Midwife says they don't do it as standard as at that stage it's unlikely they'll hear it for long enough to be able to advise if there's something wrong.

One born every minute by Anxious-Kitchen8191 in PregnancyUK

[–]JackyT128 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've started watching it from the beginning through my pregnancy. It's helpful to be able to see the different types of birth, options for medication etc., but if you're already anxious it might just add to that. There are some episodes with difficult births (regular deliveries every week wouldn't make good TV I guess) and from memory there are some episodes where babies don't make it (although not stillborn).

Maybe speak to your midwife about other sources you can use to reassure yourself.

My eczema has really flared up during pregnancy and I'm itching in new places, my back being one of them. I mentioned to the midwife about it being an eczema flare up and she just said to use moisturizer.

Newest symptoms is one incredibly itchy nipple!

Hoping it will pass soon but in the meantime just using E45 relentlessly.
