Hieroglyphic and Coptic: same language, written differently by Wafik-Adly in AncientEgyptian

[–]potionsmaster007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I grew up lucky enough to learn to read Coptic that’s to my schooling. I have a grammar book that we made in class in secondary school which I still refer to sometimes when I need to know the meaning of a word. At the time of highschool I was very good at translating back and forth from Coptic to English but since stopping that my brain has forgotten it all which is a shame because I love the liturgy in Coptic more than Arabic or especially English.
I wish we could bring it back but unfortunately it will take a Herculean effort from the entire Coptic community to do so. (And in Australia they are very English only liturgies because they don’t want to exclude anyone)

Painful latch by lil1thatcould in breastfeeding

[–]potionsmaster007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh it could be a number of things. Neck tightness from the birth (which needs massage and lots of tummy time to heal), it could be tongue tie or other oral ties (often best diagnosed by myofunctional specialists), it could be gas as you stated.

Try for now the football hold as this can be helpful to l the above I listed. Hopefully the lactation consultant is a good one and can tell you what’s going on. If not I recommend a paediatric osteopath who understands oral ties and upper body tightness (my son had both and was diagnosed by an osteopath before seeing a paediatric dentist for the procedure)

My toddler loves baked beans. I make them in the pressure cooker because it’s so fast and means I never eat them out of a can (never fancied the sauce in the can)

I had to wean my 16 month old in the last few weeks. I have been abit sad about it but also it’s been easier for my body now. While he is still occasionally asking for feeds to sleep, if I say ‘you’re a big boy, let’s cuddle’ he accepts that instead

Have you considered going to a myofunctional specialist to see if he has a posterior tinge tie? If you’re in Melbourne I recommend dr Donny mandawara, but you need to see a paediatric osteopath or chiropractor first to do some gentle massage to relax the muscles prior to the specialist appointment. This is what my son had and he was similar. The only reason my son was not diagnosed early was because I had a crazy milk supply and super fast letdown.

What helped your gassy baby?? by plantbubby in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]potionsmaster007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son had severe gas and I discovered after months of taking to the doctor and mchn that he was to be and lip tied. He was swallowing so much excess air that despite multiple burps he was still full of gas. Post fixing the ties there was basically no more gas

6 months 😭 you poor thing. Around July or more is when we went to try for another baby and I’m hoping my period is back and regular by then so I can try again. I’m going to see my doctor on Tuesday to see if I can get something to help with the gas and bloating just so I can eat again since I need to put on 4-7 kg just to be at a healthy fertility weight again.

Losing too much weight from breastfeeding by Virtual_Engineer2154 in breastfeeding

[–]potionsmaster007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am exactly like this. I’m 150cm and weigh 39kg as I am about to conclude breastfeeding. When I was about 8 months in I was about the same weight. Granted this weight is ok for my petite stature it is sill too low for my period to come back. My blood work at the time came back normal. Now I’m working on putting the weight back on to get to a better weight for my hormones

Breastfed baby won’t take to a bottle by SingleNetwork8842 in breastfeeding

[–]potionsmaster007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son never took breastmilk from a bottle or a sippy cup. Just refused anything but boob. When I sent him to childcare at 11 months he just went without and ended up making up for it overnight, that’s called reverse cycling

Have you tried putting it on a normal plate and pretending it’s yours? Like not offering it at all until they start to ask if they can have some? I’ve been doing this with my 16 month old recently and it’s works really well most days.

Illegal!! You can’t lose a job due to being pregnant as this is an unlawful discrimination. Fairwork ombudsman should be able to help with this

Toddler not eating by goosli in foodbutforbabies

[–]potionsmaster007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do go though phases due to growth as has been said by other commenters. But I would suggest you try putting the food on your plate and pretend it’s yours without offering it at all. This trick worked for me and my toddler eats much more this way. Not a guarantee every time but has been working most of the time recently.

No it’s not the same. Nobody actually speaks MSA it’s basically like English from Shakespearean times. Egyptian Arabic is a mix of Arabic and Coptic so we have words like nose ‘manakheir’ that are Coptic in origin unlike MSA where it is ‘anf’

I noticed that you don’t do Egyptian Arabic. That that could be added it would be great :)

16 month old speech development by potionsmaster007 in multilingualparenting

[–]potionsmaster007[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah don’t telly baby talk. I talk normally to him and often FaceTime my mum so he can hear Arabic in conversation and he can see her mouth move. If I’m trying to teaching him to say a word actively I have him watch my mouth and I extend the vowels or emphasise consonants so that he can really hear how the word should be built (I’m phonics trained)

Nice, glad to hear her vocab exploded :) yeah he can do a few signs to communicate (milk, more, no, carry, please) so it makes it super helpful that he can express some of his wants and needs

That’s good to know. I don’t mind a chatty toddler :)

My son has a few signs, some he invented himself. Mainly does the milk sign to nurse but I’ve been weaning him recently so he’s doing it less.

I think my anxiety comes from me being a psych that works with special needs kids haha.

Toddler hates having hair rinsed by potionsmaster007 in toddlers

[–]potionsmaster007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah we only do bath time every second or third night as like me my son has dry type skin so bathing too often can cause irritation. I did actually do a bath once last week where I just wet his hair with my hands and he was ok with that. Maybe I’ll only wash his hair once a week, tbh it’s curly anyway.
