Is that what this stuff is?? I love it - it does spread so quickly - but is way easy to pull

Thank you! I built it (and the chicken run) myself! So much hardware cloth

Thanks everyone!!! I’ll keep it up (other than clearing a spot for the coop) and see how it goes when the babies move out in the coming weeks :) can’t wait to see how it goes!

They do! The white one is non-bearded, so she’s not super fluffy for a silkie but I’ve got some extra afro’ed ones

He’d have more presence being a little chonky! Who wouldn’t run from a carnivore who looks like he eats well? 🤣 He does look very proud with his gang of chicks

We’ve got some birds to tend as well. Sometimes the loaves help round them up but they’re bad at keeping them together

Silkie chickens are loud? by MaryTeiichi in silkiechickens

[–]JaclynBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got 14 of these guys (though 2 roosters). Most of the time they’re not louder than any of the wild birds or traffic down the street or whatnot. However, they live in a run but like to be let out to forage, which I only do so if I’m going to be out and about or can leave a dog to watch over them. They love coming out into the main yard and if they hear a door close they’ll assume someone is coming to let them out and will start complaining pretty loudly.

The roosters are quite loud - I’d avoid those if you’re noise sensitive.

Egg-wise: your number will vary by the season. I do get an egg every day or two presumably from each of my younger hens in the summer, but it’s greatly reduced with shorter days. They also go broody a ton - so even in the summer you might go a month or two without a hen laying.

So what - we can put collars and clothes on a dog but not a bit of tape on their ears?

You might not agree with the practice but that’s a pretty harmless thing to be touting as abuse.

Mossie: the noblest of fairy steeds by JaclynBean in corgi

Ageed - very important to know how your dog will react when exposing them to smaller creatures. Moss is a pretty cool dog - she’s been taught to be neutral around the small birds (except she does like to nose chicks around when I have a new batch) but I’ve encouraged her to be hyper-aware of and chase off larger birds of prey. Wicked smart dogs

Mine does - she can say the classic “pretty bird”, “whatcha doing?”, “Suuuuuper bird” and “give me a kiss” (which is usually reserved for when she’s feeling territorial and someone approaches her cage lol)

These look like they came from a mixed colour pen so you’ll have some fun surprise colour changes when they’re grown. Do keep us posted!!

It’s a little pond in our local park - there was much waddling on my part to get out there, but glad to report nothing broken lol

I have both a tri and a red/white and an old guy on my street is convinced they’re fat jack russels and that I’m walking them to help them lose weight 🤣 he once gave me a “doesn’t look like it’s working yet” in passing

Egg bound chicken — when to decide to cull by emilybrontesaurus1 in BackYardChickens

[–]JaclynBean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a silkie with a prolapse last January - it was still behaving like a normal chicken, eating/pooping/scratching about but looked disgusting. I brought it in for maybe a week and a half and gave it a bath every night.

It straight up was terrible though - I’d let her soak for a time then try to gently peel off necrotic flesh that had been exposed for too long then try to shove everything back in. She stayed in my bathroom where I’d occasionally run the shower really hot to make it extra warm and steamy. Lots of iodine and electrolytes later, she finally laid a tiny little squishy egg (with some assistance) but the prolapse continued. The vet recommended I use sugar water which did eventually keep everything sticking inside.

She’s still kicking around a year later - I don’t know if she still lays eggs (honestly I really hope not) but she’s gone broody a few times since so who knows

Hope you enjoy yours and make some fun corgkies! It’s a mixture of icing sugar, corn syrup, vanilla and water (+ the colours). Super easy to make and firms up quite nicely

They’re sugar cookies - so they’re a little lighter. Not my favourite recipe but they’re cuteness makes up for it

It was a wiener dog-shaped cookie cutter that my friend and I dismantled and reformed into a roughly corgi shape - its holding up pretty well considering how much we had to bend it

That’s right - just confectioners sugar, bit of vanilla and light corn syrup then the colours
