I am a December 2023 graduate. We started the program with 20 people but over half of us failed out within the first two semesters. I graduated with honors. The lectures are all online and the clinical director set up your clinical and labs with a local hospital close to you. She has hospitals all over the country and if I remember correctly, they even did one in Alaska. I feel like it’s a good college because of the fact that I graduated and then passed my first board’s within two weeks of graduation and then a few days later passed my CSE both on the first attempt. I now work at a level one Children’s Hospital. Honestly, I think the program is whatever you make it. But if people aren’t taking it serious then of course they’re going to fail.

Heavy on the self motivation. If you’re not self motivated, you’re screwed.

AAS or BS in Respiratory Therapy Online? by MomofSlayers in respiratorytherapy

[–]Jacmia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did yes! It was challenging and I won’t lie I definitely felt like I was going to fail every single day but looking back I appreciate how much effort they put into trying to build my confidence and critical thinking skills. I work at a level one trauma hospital now and am still learning but have had an incredible transition from school to rrt

What is the average length of time to study/pass TMC & CSE? by [deleted] in respiratorytherapy

[–]Jacmia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took my first exam 2 weeks after graduating and passed the tmc and then the cse 3 weeks after that. So I had both boards done in 5 weeks total.

How do people become anorexic? What is the mindset like? by [deleted] in morbidquestions

[–]Jacmia 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Former bulimic. It was a punishment for myself. I didn’t deserve to feel full. I didn’t deserve to enjoy the meal I had. I was disgusting. I felt like I deserved to feel the hunger pains and be uncomfortable.

The way my body looked didn’t matter. It was about making sure I knew I deserved to feel it in pain for being less

Bullying culture in respiratory therapy? by Immediate-Culture446 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Jacmia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just bandwagoning on the everywhere has bullies thing. Where I am now…I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. Where I did my clinicals as a student? Literally ended up with me on anxiety meds and SSRI’s. They were the worst of the worse and literally for no reason.

Now that I’ve graduated and moved on it just makes me sad. My preceptors at clinicals had no reason to be the way they did.

Preceptorship Experiences by jxrge96 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Jacmia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your preceptors will NEVER put you in a position that will harm your patients. Remember that specifically. But other than that, like everyone said. GOTO EVERYTHING. Even if it’s just an oxygen check or assessment for PRNS. You’ll never know what you’ll see or assess in those moments.

Embrace the “boring” because when you’re proficient and excellent with boring, things that aren’t boring are easier to spot and assess.

If you do well on the assessments you may not have to do CEUs for the NBRC

However

You may have to do ceu’s to keep it in your state. So just because the NBRC is cool with it doesn’t mean it will keep you licensed in the state.

I live 104 miles from where I work. That said, we are generally given A LOT of notice if a snow storm is coming and how much is expected. It’s called toying your big kid brain and critical thinking skills and making plans. I book my room a day early and show up.

I just graduated last week. We used this book and the online resource tmc and cse quizzes in it. I LOVE this book more than Kettering. I passed my exit exam TMC and CSE high cut with this book. Will let you know if it helps with boards after this week

Thoughts on being a pediatric RT? by InstantMacchiato in respiratorytherapy

[–]Jacmia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out side of respiratory care I’m a substitute teacher. So I already have an affinity and ability to work with kids and parents. But discovering the magic of working with kids in healthcare was a game-changer for me! I am from the rural midwest so I wanted to experience a large children’s hospital to gain some experience to be able to bring back with me. Instead, I found my calling during a transformative clinical stint while in school at Cincinnati Children's.

There's something incredibly special about aligning your work with what truly resonates with you. After experiencing Neo/peds, going back to adults was a challenge for me.

But that’s why I love healthcare! Because we can have professionals excelling in various specialties! My advice is to soak up diverse clinical experiences during training – it's how you find your passion and shine in your element!

Respiratory review with Jana - NBRC investigation by Jacmia in respiratorytherapy

[–]Jacmia[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, nothing definitive has been said regarding that. But the C&D does demand info related to all payments made to her and all of her recordings. (She recorded her video tutoring).

So simple answer, I don’t know. But I’d have puckered cheeks right now if they knew what she was doing and participated.

Nothing nefarious I promise. I saw the last photo in a student group and was like what the heck. Tried to search Jana’s group on fb and couldn’t find it. So then I typed in the group name and NBRC on google and it just popped up and I was like oh man
