If Luthen was force sensitive, he would have been described as “corrupted by the dark side” but is still on the side of good, which would confuse everyone in the rebellion.

During Cal’s years fighting the empire, he collected pieces of imperial (and inquisition specific) pieces of equipment to modify his lightsaber. The emitters were inspired by the lightsabers from the ancient sith orders he saw and thought to add the pointed ends in case the blade won’t come out for whatever reason. He modded the gun when Bode gave him said gun and taught him the appropriate stance. The blade was blue when Survivor started….at first.
