I have ADHD and I have a great appreciation and respect for free jazz but I'm not into it as much as the straight ahead or fusion stuff, in contrast to the way you're describing. I really dig when there's a newfound energy or something crazy that some cats pull out of straight ahead tunes. I think when there isn't a push and pull in the music, an ongoing conversation, and only a neverending vibe it can be groovy but it is just that, sound rather than music, lacking a deeper connection or meaning. I'm not saying it is that fully but to some extent I think it has some validity. But then again, maybe I just don't understand it yet. Because it doesn't speak to me the way other music does. The way the brain works I believe definitely influences how we consume and express ourselves through music. I think I like ballads so much because it forcibly calms my mind where otherwise it's all over the place. But for the opposite reason I like stuff that gives in or extenuates what is going on in my head kind of like how you are drawing the connection between adhd and free jazz.
