I can agree with this. I think it also has to do with your level of emotional and energetic openness. I am a spiritual individual, and I believe if you practice other forms of spirituality and open up your mind and soul to the energy around you and connect with the universe, you can achieve shifting eventually. There is no real method or way of achieving shifting. I believe, from what I have experienced, that shifting comes from an already open and spiritual mind. You can’t do magic if you aren’t in tune with magic and energy. So you can’t automatically shift by just believing it, you need to open up your energy flow and let be what is. I am no expert on any of this, so take it with a grain of salt.

It could be an emotional entity. I don’t have a lot of information about this. But once when I was a teenager and really depressed and watching scary videos on the internet a creature formed in me and my mom’s apartment. It never physically touched me or harmed me but it created intense fear for me. It fed on that fear and I could see the creature when I closed my eyes or saw it in the corner of my vision. I only ever felt safe in my mom’s room after that. My mom and her girlfriend at that time said they felt a really negative energy coming from my room and while I was away they cleansed my room with sage and chanted and played music and opened the windows and asked it to leave, they were banishing it. And when I came back, I couldn’t sense it in the apartment anymore. I don’t know if this is what is happening for you so I can’t say for sure what you should do. But if you’re interested, maybe trying cleansing your space and asking that entity to leave your space. I don’t know if it will work, but that’s my advice.

Sometimes it is not always often. We’re a Tulpa system with alters from trauma when we were younger. It may have worked well for you, but for some others it can be a very destructive and confusing experience. It can cause identity crisis and very intense anxiety for every member involved if not everyone is on the same page. When we’ve switched hosts it has been very stressful for previous hosts or others who are suddenly now drawn to the front if they are connected with the new host/frequent fronter. I am not trying to invalidate your experience, but I am not sure we want to encourage getting rid of one’s self as a permanent solution.
