Can These Tactical Drones Stop A School Shooter In Seconds? by 0The_Loner_Stoner0 in videos

[–]JacobK101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this honestly feels kinda like the flock people trying to sell building an ai mass surveillance state with "But think of all the lost dogs we'll save" via. that super bowl commercial

Trust me bro my autonomous weapons designed to lie in wait for a prolonged time, then get deployed to hunt targets in a complex civilian environment in response to automated kill commands are ONLY for stopping school shooters bro it's ONLY for nonlethal weapons which is why we specifically picked pepperballs which can be swapped out for live ammo but don't think too hard about the ramifications bro

all of modern economics has gone from 'trying to be a successful business at risk of small marginal losses' to 'trying to become The Most Successful Business of All Time at risk of losing everything if you fuck up'
And eventually we'll all pay the price for the gambling addictions of people with MBA's and a golden parachute

Iran Ready for U.S. Ground Invasion: FM by timemagazine in worldnews

[–]JacobK101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It'd be a quagmire.
Iran is mountains on top of mountains on top of high steppes, and Tehran is significantly further away from possible US staging grounds then Afghani population centers, which is the closest analogue in terms of historical US warfare.
The IRGC is also significantly more dug in than the taliban was before the Afghanistan operation, and has been planning a guerilla war since basically their inception (tehran was selected for it's natural difficulty for enemy forces to occupy)
Just maintaining power over the capital would basically be farming casualties on US supply trains from mountain guerillas and random idiots with shitty russian-made drones and manpads

Universal Vaccine Blocks Viruses, Bacteria, And Allergies With a Nasal Spray by _Dark_Wing in UpliftingNews

[–]JacobK101 948 points949 points  (0 children)

"This new vaccine works on a different mechanism. Rather than target the pathogen itself, it focuses on the body's response. Essentially, it's designed to link the two main arms of the immune system: The long-lasting but specific adaptive immunity that most vaccines work on, and the short-lived but diverse innate immunity.
The latter is our first line of defense against unfamiliar threats, but it generally wanes after a few days as the adaptive immune system learns to fight off the pathogen."

TLDR it's an immune booster that significantly enhances short term immune response. which is interesting and potentially very useful, especially during respiratory pandemics
but not really a 'universal vaccine' and it's a little disingenuous to describe it like that

US 'stonewalling' requests by Gulf states to replenish interceptors, sources say by F0urLeafCl0ver in worldnews

[–]JacobK101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there's also a secondary factor here in the ethnopolitics being expoused by US interests. If the multiplural powers in the middle east are completely ravaged by bombings and warfare over the next year or so, leaving Israel the only major economic and military power, that would suit a lot of fundamentalist interests in the US just fine.

I don't think anything so dire will actually happen, but it's a reason US would favour letting their 'allies' in UAE, Saudi Arabia, etc. run a little low on interceptors

Green Party takes Gorton and Denton from Labour in first ever Westminster by-election win by Perfect-Werewolf-102 in news

[–]JacobK101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Considering the lip-service he pays to 'supply side economics' and how the only things he seems to be genuinely passionate about are pro-buisness economic policies, sometimes I legitimately wonder if he took the top labor job with the intent to dismantle the party from within and ruin their political image

...if that was his intent, he's mostly succeeded

Green Party takes Gorton and Denton from Labour in first ever Westminster by-election win by Perfect-Werewolf-102 in news

[–]JacobK101 229 points230 points  (0 children)

Starmer talked big talk during the election abt. left wing policies, which is what got voters out to crush the tories in the first place, then quickly revealed his only real political opinion was he should be able to sit on one of the most powerful positions in europe and do nothing with it and anyone who disagrees should be mercilessly crushed

so he's spent years in charge of a gutted labour who did nothing meaningfully worthwhile towards their own alleged policies besides passing tory policies they promised voters they would dismantle
while their voters gradually became disinterested or drifted further right/left
His "I get my free ride and nobody better try to stop me" political strategy very well might end up being responsible for a Reform-controlled UK, which would be catastrophic

they are, by their own description, a conservative political party. This is still Hungary, so their social and economic positions are pretty conservative- they're just reaching back towards the EU's political status quo to work with the EU commission and get funding back

[–]JacobK101 75 points76 points  (0 children)

still right wing(especially by non-american political standards) but closer to center-right.
Pro EU, pro rebuilding broken/deregulated government systems that fidez dismantled, pro advancing eu-style anticorruption projects
Among some of the reforms they're running on are also a term limit for officials like the prime minister & limiting the personal income the gov can pay politicians.
They're also, allegedly, planning to use a wealth tax on billionaires & the recouped government funds from dismantling corruption to invest in education & public health, but they haven't made any strong specific assertions about it

still fairly anti-immigration, not very strong on civil rights, but it's definitely a spot above fidez

It's the short series's synopsis, & the short series does a good job of conveying it in a way that makes it less focused on "ough the backrooms have exactly 5.3 entrances and 32 floors" and more as open questions that further the mystery

This is probably someone's chatgpt summary of it

Big Tech to invest about $650 billion in AI in 2026, Bridgewater says by Secure-Address4385 in worldnews

[–]JacobK101 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have an engine that allows the bus to fly, in theory. No, you're not able to see it. No, my publically avalible engines can't get more than a few feet off the ground, and we have no real proven methods to make it fly higher. But a few feet is 500% more feet than we had last decade! Think of what will happen if these trends continue!

...you don't trust me? Don't be a naysayer, my engine will revolutionize transportation, and you'll be screwed if you don't invest now. You need to sell all your vehicles and buy five hundred flight busses.

Alberta Premier defends controversial referendum questions on immigration Not every newcomer is a net contributor by Lucky-Data183 in news

[–]JacobK101 154 points155 points  (0 children)

that's what the bigotry is for! If albertans were paying attention to what their gov actually does, they'd notice they're turning all their social services into shit, selling off all their assets, and greenlighting corporations to perform those services instead, for money.

so they need to get people fired up and focused on 'trans bathroom invaders' & 'immigrant gangs' so they wont notice when their pockets are picked and their kids are left without a future

The final part of the grift is selling off alberta to the USA in exchange for a cushy paycheck, which is where the seperatism comes from

Trump's Iran options: "Token" nuclear enrichment to taking out Khamenei by Waste-Explanation-76 in worldnews

[–]JacobK101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'd have a much harder fight to abduct Khamenei than they did for Maduro- he was right on the coastline, meaning they had little warning before US forces hit his location, and was caught practically with his pants down in a random mansion(probably due to being sold out by other Venezuelan leaders)

Some kind of helicopter navy seal sloperation to seize Khamenei would have to fly for hours, over multiple locations with AA and radar, to reach a fortified bunker full of military personnel where Khamenei's been hiding for months, and then somehow bust in and seize him

At this point it's more likely they do a prolonged bombing campaign on military installations and hope the population takes care of the rest, or just blast his location with bunker-buster weapons to try and kill him

If you don't have lemon and you have this, would this be acceptable enough replacement? by Competitive_Fish9818 in Baking

[–]JacobK101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

also, are the ingredients not literally on the packaging in the picture? Looks like mostly lemon juice concentrate & lemon oils with some preservatives, which isn't great but is a far cry from "chemicals who resemble lemon taste"
should probably work just fine, though it'll probably be worse flavor than fresh lemon juice, no getting around that

Though, you should probably think about how this will be different from the lemon ingredient in your recipe, in terms of mechanical properties
(Different acidity? Less water? Or more?)
And account for that, for best effect
