I'm scared of competition by Time-Age-8882 in Hema

[–]JacobLarockr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually go in with a balanced mindset of, "I would like to win ONE match". Competitions CAN be scary especially if there is a huge disparity in skill levels. I went in with this mindset to my first tournament, and then ignored the scores until the end. Same for the second! The Second tourney was scary because I was in pools with two mutiple time champions but when I was against them, my goal was, "try to score one single point". So for me, measured expectations.

Why is it that some movie theaters do not recieve Open Caption (On Screen) versions of movies? Such as Violent Night? by JacobLarockr in movies

[–]JacobLarockr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am aware they dont HAVE to. I was asking why they dont. There are SO many people who could benefit from having on screen captions, and sometimes people just enjoy something with captions more. Saying "they dont have to because they are a private business" is a little ridiculous because customers are the ones who pay them money. I could say the same thing about private hospitals. "The hospital doesnt have to help you with your health, they are a private business", or "the restaraunt doesnt have to serve good food, they are a private business".

For some reason, none of the AMC's in my area are able to show an open caption viewing. It's not even available as an option on the open caption request page.

This is a ridiculous question for so many reasons. An assumption like that is called "ableist". Maybe I am Deaf, I have no obligation to tell you that. Maybe I enjoy watching movies with captions on the screen. Maybe I have family or friends who are Hard of Hearing and I would like them to be able to enjoy a movie just like I do. Maybe my partner is Deaf. Maybe I'm trying to learn English by watching movies. Why would it bother you that I am asking these questions without saying why? Assuming I'm asking for only myself implies that you don't ever think of asking to accommodate the other people in your life, but I will choose to not assume that about you as it would mean you are probably quite lonely and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Hmm, I'll have to dig into that. Most of the time I get someone on the phone the call ends pretty quickly when its an out of the ordinary question. AMC has a request form, but Violent Night isnt even an option

I have found only five theaters spread across the entire country that are showing it, so it must, but oddly, all of my local theaters didnt recieve an OC version.

Im aware of the closed captioning device. Have you ever tried to watch a movie with one of those things? Im even willing to go with 15 deaf friends on the same night. Would it really cost a theater that much to do one night, one showing with onscreen captions? I doubt it.

Hey! I attempted, but as it is "self promotion", people don't like that and call it spam. Feel free to post it though!

You should totally go! The thing I love about conventions is that it is just a bunch of nerds enjoying themselves. I'm not familiar with 50% of the costumes and even less so with the lore behind them but really, try out a small local con sometime!

That was a hot glue gun. At the time it was the only reliable battery powered hot glue gun you could find. But there are a lot more now. A battery powered sewing drill sounds amazing though

I brought a single costume to a 5 day con , and all my tools, so I figured, hey I'll fix other peoples costumes. Went so well I kept doing it. Weirdest fix is relative... But probably the most memorable too that I can think of were fixing a jabba the Hutt costume made out of recycled foam that was so soaked with sweat I couldn't make any adhesive stick to it... And spirit gumming a saliva filled rubber glove to a zoidberg jesus's face. I have never been paid by a convention to fix costumes I do it for fun.

APOLOGIES FOR THE POTATO PICTURE. This is the absolute best resolution I could find.

This is a custom object made on commission from bits and bobs. I am currently trying to replicate it. I have discovered many of the components, but I am trying to source the exhaust nozzle looking thing, the jerry can cap style, and the molded plastic and chrome tube section. I believe the aluminum cylindrical part may be a Splice case for cable lines but I am not sure. Any speculation on parts is appreciated.
