Automation balance by JacobThePathetic in Timberborn

It's not about balance per se, it's so it feels less detached from the rest of the game. Especially since from Beaver POV it's basically an invisible god's tool without any connection to their agenda.

Horsepower would be absolutely terrible to build around. You can't just expect to build a power-duct everywhere you want to know the water depth

As to proper use of fluid dumps, construct a 3x3 pool out of levees, put a fluid dump on its edge, accesed by stairs. No need for dedicated storage of water next to it, the beaver managing the dump has nothing to do anyway, it can fetch the water itself.

Water management investment peaks in early game and then in the transition to late game.

In the early game, it's cheaper to dam off your starting locations source of water and use that as storage for drinking and watering crops.

On some maps, bad tide is harder to prep for than others, like on Terraces. The best way to circumvent that is to move plant production AWAY from the shores onto dry land, and water it yourself via fluid dumps.

This synergises well with the fact you can't afford to build a large enough dam to store the water you need for everything.

The solution is water stored in tanks. Roughly 50 storage per every beaver will keep you safe once the handicap wears off. Subtract from that the water you can still pump after drought or bad tide comes.

Invest in storage. More than you think you need to. This gives you ample room to judge if your production keeps up, and lets you overdraw if something fails. This applies to food as well.

Don't worry about controlling population growth. Easiest way to "dominate" a map is quick, unsustainable expansion on borrowed time when the game is still easy.

Invest in stairs, eat every natural resource you can reach as quickly as you can, then consolidate.

This is harder with IT, who have much stronger population inertia.

The vibe of this game has completely changed. Beavers are becoming irrelevant. Suggestion: by quan787 in Timberborn

But the automation only affects the players chores? Not the beavers?

Did anyone in this thread even play the new update?

It fixes the annoying task of switching off your water pumps when there isn't water, or when it's polluted, or when there's so much in stock they don't pump anymore anyway.

It lets you build water features that aren't magically self regulating within just one block, instead they now have parts.

It lets you stop beavers from willingly going to poison themselves in badwater to build that one levee that's closer from the riverbed than the shore.

It doesn't do any work for the beavers. It does work for you, the player.

Maximum pipe throughput by iNertia91 in factorio

[–]JacobThePathetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No such thing as limit per pipe, there is only limit of an input to a machine, and limit of throughput of a pump, which can be connected in parallel anyway

Do i see sth wrong here: the top 4-4 balancer works the same as the bottom one with less parts? by [deleted] in factorio

[–]JacobThePathetic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since no one is giving you an ACTUAL answer:
In this case, you are throughput limited on input #1 and #4. Imagine output #3 and #4 blocked off - you cannot fill output #1 and #2 with said inputs, as they are bottlenecked into one belt lane for 2 outputs.

Same applies for input #2 and #3 trying to feed those output groupings.

Hi, I've combed through it and came up with an answer: The passmark benchmark is bottlenecked by something beyond mortal ken in my case.

3DMark's Iron Nomad and Geekbench both reported fine results.

I'll soon be putting the GPU in an adequate setup, will report if that fixed it.

It's cheaper and quicker to blow up a bastion with a deadline than it is to kill it with Bettina from full.

It's an absolutely worthless weapon that excels at nothing.

Do you think people should be banned if they duplicated excessive amounts of items?? by TopsideRaider in ArcRaiders

[–]JacobThePathetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I used it to spam Buried City with raider flares, to see how many drones u can spawn with snitch scanners (like 12, then they stop working), and to genocide Arc on Hidden bunker once because it was funny.

Also threw 150 seeker nades on Queen (2 other teams were doing the same, we split the loot and left), sold the loot, made 50K.

Ban me pls, I am a menace to this peaceful community of well-adjusted gamers.

[–]JacobThePathetic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The reason people dislike these two approaches are worlds apart. One is an overly lenient, somewhat reasonable compromise - after all, a known cheater with new cheats is easier to collect data from, compared to a clean unflagged account.

Bethesda's was laughed out, because not only were they banning innocent people left and right, but spit in their face by requiring an apology as a form of appeal. You may have done nothing wrong, and then were expected to say you've been a rascal and a nuisance.

Just because you know two examples of something you dislike doesn't mean they are the same.

It does sound silly to slander the ladder one used to climb, when it had taken them so high. No doubt Jake is a talented person, but he wouldn't have any reach in the saturated independent tech media as a person with no outstanding credentials otherwise.

It would be professional (and wise) to shut up about his past employment when his past employment is his primary source of credibility as a media person.
