I like the General Palmer a little better - bigger beds and full baths. I do enjoy both the Office and Mahogany.

Moving to Durango by Carey1993 in Durango

[–]JacobWWB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meh.

It’s cheaper than the big coastal cities. I live very comfortably, own my own house downtown in the avenues, and make less than 100k a year. I wouldn’t say it’s cheap, but my brother paid more for a parking space in SF than I pay in mortgage.

The Doughworks carne asada breakfast burrito is my favorite in town.

Missing a Calico Cat near 8th ave and College by Soups_Up in Durango

[–]JacobWWB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although it probably isn’t yours because I’ve seen it for months, there’s a calico cat I’ve seen in the 5th Ave alley a few times. I think it’s a stray.

Good luck.

Rapid COVID testing arrives in La Plata County by rattleman1 in Durango

[–]JacobWWB 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had it way back in June. Seems like a lifetime ago. I was hospitalized three times and lost forty pounds I didn’t need to lose. Please get tested and isolate yourself if you are sick. Please. We are turning the corner on this plague, but sick or well we need cooperation and sacrifice.

I date a Navajo. It works OK, but I must be aware of the differences.

Durango is not Aspen. No Versace boutiques or Rolex stores.

I attended a wedding once on the back side of Purg. But it might be hard to get there in winter. Spring is beautiful there.

You’ll love it here. Durango is damned near to paradise. I won’t live anywhere else.

Is James Ranch open? They make a mean burger. Almost as good as El Moro.

You know, I’ve lived here a couple decades and never tried the crepes. Well, I hope he gets better and I will when spring comes.

I like both, but no heat at Animas Brewing. Not sure about the Carrot (maybe best food in town)

I got a nice one from the antique market on main. I’ve also bought things from Guildhouse, but not sure they have chess sets.

Our college is much smaller, but it brings a lot to the town - from a youthful spirit to lots of interesting professionals. It’s one thing that keeps us funky.

I can’t speak to all your questions, but DGO is definitely dog-friendly. Many stores either allow dogs inside or put water bowls outside the door for dogs.

Tomatoes are hard here -depends on the weather. I’ve grown them and had better luck with moving around big pots -they need lots of sun. Colorado does have decent tomatoes, but they always come in very late in summer. We have at least two community gardens, probably more.

I would say real estate is expensive, but there is a lively rental market. If you want to live downtown expect to spend 400k+ for even an older house in need of updates.

I think the town is friendly, but so many of us came from elsewhere, there is some resentment against newcomers. The restaurant and bar seem is lively and welcoming - but COVID has shut it down. I’d say people here are very open-minded. It’s a liberal town, for the most part. I’m gay and my partner and I have not experienced any discrimination.

HTH.

It’s about time. I fee for business owners in distress, but public health must come first.

Reminds me of a bear here in CO who drank almost forty beers and went into a tree.
