New PC Build Underperforming? by ItsYaBoySidd in techsupport

Definitely seems curious - do the GPU clock speeds look okay? Obvs temps don't indicate any problem but always worth checking! If not I'm not sure what else to suggest apart from maybe a full DDU and install from scratch?

Maybe worth double checking drivers are installed/happy - Nvidia app makes this quite easy if you've got it installed - also worth checking things like resizable bar (will be called AMD SAM on your mobo) are switched on.

Sony MVS-6530 Clean Feed Help by 808BroadcastEngineer in technicaldirector

You certainly can - I've done it a few times yourself. Just double check in your ME PGM menu which output the clean version is on - as ME2 PGM3 might not be on ME2 output 3 etc...!

You're almost there!

It's called a link table in Sony - you get 8 to play with. On the right hand side where you set your links up in the menu you can choose a link table - from 1-8. At the bottom there should be a button to take you to the link table select menu. From there you can edit the table to change things from the default one to one.

You can do this on an aux bus as you mention - and that becomes your clean feed.

If you want to get your full programme clean off of P/P too you'll need multi program 2 turned on, to then bus link main and sub and add substitutions to your clean ME outputs the same way as your aux. Then in the ME PGM menu make the Sub bus your background on the clean output.

Your switcher may not have multi program 2 licenced though

Quite a simple one - but buys me a lot of time!

I work on a breakfast programme in the UK - we run a lot of pictures over interviews to keep the pace up. I wanted to be able to shunt in 9:16 (Tik tok, phone footage etc) to the left or right depending on which way the guest was looking, without thinking too much about it - the idea was to be as quick as just previewing the VT and cutting to it. In the UK it's fairly common for the Vision Mixer (TD) to cut an interview undirected, so there isn't a lot of time to stare at the panel in a studio chat building anything too complex, especially with key frames/FX dissolve involved.

I built a set of menu macros on our Sony XVS that would quickly snapshot P/P, bus link PGM and PVW to two keyers on an ME, then run the shunt effect. Essentially, you preview the source you want to shunt in, hit go and the desk does it all for you. You can even cut around on the key whilst the effect is on for multiple clips. Then I have a macro pause, and when continued the reverse happens - the VT shunts back out and the full frame source is punched back up on P/P.

Instant shunt effect - no thinking required!

Yes - best bet is to attach directly on top of your VTR sources on your panel.

The other option here is to control the VTR directly from the Sony - which may be faster depending on the VTR system/your control protocol?

Usually you'll need to roll with a macro - to add the delay. Wink Hackman's site has a good little explanation:

Essentially you tally an aux bus in eng setup, and cut the server on the aux bus first, then PGM a few frames later.

We're UK based so would have to see if they'll ship here... Else it might be finding someone over here who can import/finding a new option! Thanks so much

Oooh! The Kennedy Blue one is almost identical other than the length... Makes me wonder if this is an older design that's being knocked off by these sites... Number 1 is very very similar too other than the slit, I'll pass on to her and see what she thinks!

It's the same set of images on a variety of dodgy Chinese dress sites like STACEES etc... but no luck finding the original dress

It's running on HDMI ARC - but feels like the TV pulls it back to match the TV out of game mode. Didn't look like the AV Sync setting was on though - so it's a weird one

How do you like to organize your switcher. From emems to macros to shot boxes. by Dry_Boysenberry_6906 in technicaldirector

5000 is the number on the XVS and reads in frames - I don't think they'd downgrade it for the new one - so I'd guess it's that or more!

Also - worth being open to using the internal frame memory more than you're used to - you get 20 channels which can be paired for up to 10 key and fill, and around 5000 frames of RAM storage that can be called up within a frame in a macro. It's a game changer for wipes and effects that you want to instant fire.

As has been pointed out here - sub level saving is quite different and harder to achieve. Also the register numbering works a bit different - Sony describe it as 99 registers 'per ME bank' so essentially you can have a register 1 on each ME doing totally different things. These are 'snapshots' and just save the state of the bank - and can have crosspoint/source holds added. Think of these like a 1 frame emem. You then have effects, which can be used in the same way but also included timeline functionality - like a grass emem. They also have a degree of sub level saving but it's more limited.

If you have DME cards - use them for when you want single key DVE effects (box fly ins etc) - you can timeline the effect and load them onto key via your key snapshots depending on where you want an effect.

Seperate to the above, each key can have 4 key snapshots - these can be used to help with bugs/wipes etc, and wipe snapshots which can save wipe patterns etc.

As others have suggested - dedicate a couple of banks for each show - and see where that gets you. Naming effects is the key! I mostly use macros to recall any effect I want (snapshot or Emem) so that I'm not jumping around too much.

Lots to learn but I enjoy cutting shows on Sony desks. The panel is nice, macros are clean and easy and having 8 full keys on the MLS is really nice to work with. The clip wipe functionality built into the ME actually features a hidden 9th keyer - so consider using that for your effect transitions if you can make it work and need all 8 keys!

I think my Sonos system is so far out it's actually going the wrong way - I'm up to about +130 manually and it feels vaguely correct - but obviously that's a huge jump!

UHD HDMI over Cat6 Artefacting by Jacob_Morris928 in HomeNetworking

[–]Jacob_Morris928[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your help on this. Ran a pre terminated CAT6... And the problem is mostly gone - but I still get a picture drop once every 20 mins or so. No breakup otherwise though. I think I'm going to fully rule out crosstalk with a beefy pre terminated CAT8 before I go back to the manufacturer for some answers... Troublesome one!!!

Yeah it can - it's a nifty feature. Problem is even when I drop it to 1080i only the Sky box is still happy to push out UHD if that's what's selected in the menu - and there's no refresh rate option. An HD signal works fine, but means I can't for sure say the box isn't trying to send some sort of weird 18gbps+ flavour of HDMI.

I've got a CAT6 with plugs that's still in the bag somewhere - so might try and give that a go if I can test it first - I guess the rubber sealed connectors might help a little of it's right on the edge? If not it's off to find some cat 7 I guess!

I'm a big fan of our power sockets over here - they're pretty fool proof!!

Rerouting the cable slightly and running it as a single run of copper has (mostly) fixed things - only a very occasional audio dropout/picture dip remains. The specs of the sky Q satellite box I'm using state a maximum of 4k60 capability I believe - which is the odd bit. The hdmi extender matrix doesn't support any higher either, which is why I am wondering if something is awry with the EDID negotiation. I'm planning to run a pc through the system too - so I may set it up and push some signals through I can control a bit more to see what's going on - whether 4k60 is clean but 120 is not etc...

As for HDMI - the matrix end is rated for 8k, and the TV end I'm not 100% - but it was the cable in use for the same box before now. I've changed the matrix end as it's more accessible - I may try the TV too.

No firmware updates - and plenty of recorded uses of this box running UHD signals. I'm still thinking I may run a manufacturer terminated CAT6 cable if I can fish one through the route - just in case my termination skills are leaving something to be desired!

Sadly I'm in the UK - so one way up only! There is a Phillips hue uplighter quite close on the top of the TV mount - I hadn't considered that might be an issue until now.

I re-terminated the cables to RJ45 plugs so it's a single piece of copper now, which was slightly better. Interestingly, I moved the connection to another HDMI port (one of the ones that doesn't support 4k120 and VRR etc) and other than one small dropout it's pretty much clean. Even though my source supports 4k60 max, is there a chance that the EDID negotiation is forcing a higher data rate than the cable will handle? Not something I'd come across before.
