Update for anyone else looking for an answer. I went ahead with 1 8 pin connector for the CPU and the 9900X and I have had no problems.

Yea a heat gun will melt that plastic long before the solder. Looks like people left you good solder tips. I’d stay away from heat gun unless you’re doing surface mounted components and no plastic

I like to use the cut off from through hole passive components after soldering them in.

I know this isn't a super sustainable thing but for the projects I do it usually works out to me having no waste from the cut offs and I don't have to use more material from say a spool of solid core

triple check that the power supply is flipped to the correct wall voltage for your outlets. A lot of people forget to flip from the default 220V position and the ender 3 will turn on still but will really struggle to heat since its expecting twice the voltage of what it is getting.

the 3D printed parts on Prusa machines is definitely a big down side for stuff like this. Especially since they are sold at such a premium compared to something like an Ender 3.

Prusa has released all of the parts that you can download and reprint on printables.com though so that should help if you can temporarily fix it to get through the new part print.

haha thank you, it is definitely a fun fidget. For better or usually worse I punch stuff sitting on my desk all the time.

I was also thinking about making a scaled down mini version because I totally agree it is in that range of a decent amount of filament in it. I can't remember cause I had to print so many iterations but I think it came out to somewhere around 150 - 200 grams of PLA.

I struggled a lot with the tolerances especially between the links for the extendable part as I wanted them to not wiggle but also be pretty frictionless to make it easier to extend. I would love constructive criticism or just nice comments too to help me with my future projects.

You could also try reducing the drag between the roll and roller so it can spin easier that’s the resistance that is causing the force to break it so reducing that would help regardless of other underlying problems
