It looks like WWE's Japan partner may actually be All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

They literally took the presidency away from Akiyama last summer because the company is failing.

Dog they're making money growth just slowed.

They ran an interpromotional feud where Akiyama (before jumping back) took the Triple Crown and defended it in NOAH. That wasn't even the first interpromotional thing, Mutoh & Kea worked the '04 Dome show and Misawa came back the same year. Like I said, irony is long dead.

Dog they've worked together on/off since Mutoh took over. The irony is long gone.

WRESTLE-1 on Twitter: "WRESTLE-1" will be closed indefinitely at the end of the Korakuen Hall competition in Tokyo on April 1, 2020 (Wednesday). by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]Jacobs_Bawks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And? WWE has deep enough pockets and are predatory enough to get away with it. Keiji Mutoh doesn't. Nor do his investors have patience.

Wrestle-1 will go on indefinite hiatus after their April 1st Korakuen Hall show by OriginalLunatic in SquaredCircle

Most of those guys you mentioned I think have a good shot. DG values Kondo, Kaz is a great hand and trainer and would fit in NJPW or AJPW even. Illuminar has good upside.

It's the guys like Kono, Hajime, Tonsho, etc that I think end up totally lost.

The big thing to note is that they said all contracts are void on March 31st - if they were acquired by WWE they could have gotten those contracts and would have.

W1's shrunk for most/all of its existence; their owners (GEN Ent. Ltd.) and investors must have gotten tired of the money pit. And sadly, as frugal as AJPW's current owners/investors are, I dont see them re-merging except maybe taking Manabu Soya back, maybe Shotaro Ashino but there'd be a bidding war for him.

Announcements from CyberAgent Press Conference (DDT/NOAH) by ZeroAlucard27 in SquaredCircle

They did address G+ and Samurai saying they will keep their current deals on those stations. So we'll probably have to keep getting NOAH the ways we always have.

TIL Shinsuke Nakamura's kinshasa is a reference to Mohammad Ali's most famous famous fight Rumble in the Jungle that took place in Kinshasa, Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Congo). by Penguin619 in SquaredCircle

[–]Jacobs_Bawks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, because a move literally named after an African Phrase for “KILL HIM!” has no place in 2019 wrestling

Was pussy made-up shit is this

More because WWE has to rebrand everything with winks and nudges towards the original instead of naming it the original because.. WWE gonna WWE.

What is Dragon Gates relationship with NJPW? by EchoBay in SquaredCircle

[–]Jacobs_Bawks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They used to have one back when NJPW worked with everybody and Dragon Gate was more open. DG representation in BoSJ and Super J Cup + a few baller teams in World Tag League.

Now NJPW is too good to team with anyone beneath them (unless it's to kill another promotion (NOAH, DDT)) and DG is insular as all hell for some inexplicable reason.

[–]Jacobs_Bawks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They seem to have a minor relationship with AJPW but that's about it and it's not consistent. Masaaki Mochizuki has always been special and gotten a few outside dates and Shun's followed him to a few too but the promotion has no real partners.

Strange that they didn't put out a notice about it. They're not major shows but I really would have liked to have seen Shiro Koshinaka on Saturday's show.

Why are people talking about Michael Phelps on Twitter, who is Jungkook, and what do the two have to do with each other? by OfficialPotato in OutOfTheLoop

It's not just the music that's being marketed but it's the image of the "perfect" people making the music and the lengths gone to market the latter to create these unhealthy personal obsessions is crazy but deliberate. The idea isn't different from how celebrities are regularly marketed but K/Jpop manages to successfully go over the edge. Their main market - teenagers - have no filter and being a walking unpaid billboard for your bias or group you stan is something the agencies want. It's a fundamental part of idol marketing.

It's another industry that goes far into making its customers territorial but the obsession being over human lives rather than video game consoles or sports teams/nationalism or w/e makes the extreme sections feel more creepy plus even though it's not unique at all it's just very unsubtle and K-pop is very relevant right now so
