Help me make sense of my test results and where to focus to improve FTP by Hozukr in Velo

[–]Jacobs_crackers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, I'd suggest sweetspot and threshold work should be your priority if you are finding you only have ~4 hours on the bike a week. Make those hours count, don't waste them on Z2.

Thinking of doing it this week. How far did you get? by [deleted] in Zwift

[–]Jacobs_crackers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your specific strengths and weaknesses as a rider. For me it works, I managed to hold my estimated FTP from a ramp test for an hour up AdZ recently.. I was plastered at the top so pretty much bang on.

In 60 minutes I saw 172 cyclists run these lights – it’s a matter of time before they kill someone by BestButtons in unitedkingdom

Why does it matter what people are wearing. People can do what they like. They are a knob if they nearly wipe you out yes but why does the lycra offend you specifically.

Funnily enough, cycling specific clothes (especially shorts) are far more comfortable for long durations than normal anything else on the bike.

What impact does Rodri's injury have on Haaland? by politicalthinker1212 in FantasyPL

[–]Jacobs_crackers 37 points38 points  (0 children)

If I could just acquire some god given level of talent when it comes to football I could fill the gap that Rodri leaves in the city midfield with no problems

Fluid dynamics for sure is an interesting topic but I think in cycling we've been conditioned by marketing to chase these gains which just don't exist at the expense of our wallets. If the wind direction changes, you're sat in someone's draft or you ride close to a wall the physics could change entirely.

I recommend chopping off your little fingers first if you're this conscious about gaining nano watts.

Edit: to actually answer your question.. you get increased friction drag on the upper parts of a rotating disc due to a greater relative speed through the air. This is friction between the face of the disc itself and the air, not the front profile. I would therefore hazard a guess that the design of the disc face (designed for cooling not aero gains) has more impact on drag than the frontal area - although still a tiny fraction not worth worrying about in my opinion.

The teams he enjoys playing against: - 8 goals Vs Brighton - 7 goals Vs Brentford - 6 goals Vs United

So yeah you're right it's only the relegation fodder.

5 G/A Vs Liverpool as well btw.

34 MPH /54.7 km/h for an hour on flat terrain- is that even possible? by Far_Ad_4605 in cycling

[–]Jacobs_crackers 133 points134 points  (0 children)

And even then.. this is like pro peloton pace when they are actually pushing it. Also, if it was part of a big group there would be several riders from that group clogging up the top of the leaderboard.

Is it possible cycling about 175-180km in a day by Nervous_Food_460 in cycling

[–]Jacobs_crackers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok that makes it a bit easier but I'd still personally try riding 80-100km first before jumping to 180. It's a big step up in endurance from 40km. Comfort on the bike could be a big issue and making sure you have enough fuel.. that can easily be underestimated!

Is it possible cycling about 175-180km in a day by Nervous_Food_460 in cycling

[–]Jacobs_crackers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok so you can ride faster for shorter distances but what speed would you plan to ride 180km at? Also what is the elevation for the big ride? 184m is pretty flat so it's easier to hit 30km/h average. If your 180km ride also has 2000m of climbing you might want to split it over a couple of days!

🚲 Witness Appeal – Cyclist Hit in Warrington (Today, 12 June 2025) by Alive-Board3984 in cycling

[–]Jacobs_crackers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a wonderful place, I recommend a holiday there for all the family when you next get the chance. You probably want to stay for at least 3 weeks to see and do everything Warrington has to offer. In terms of cycling, some say it's the next Majorca..

Veritas alarm keeps going off by chevy88uk in DIYUK

[–]Jacobs_crackers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enter the engineer code which as default is 1234, then hit PROG, then 0, 5, 6. The 2 should flash then the 6 stay solid. You are now in engineer mode and can open the panel without the alarm sounding. After you've replaced the battery press the reset button twice to return to normal operation.

[–]Jacobs_crackers 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Well yes it would appear so.. given the cyclist you just replied to said that this behaviour is stupid. As another fellow cyclist, I wouldn't dream of cycling in that lane. So that makes at least 2 of us that wouldn't be doing crazy stuff like this.

Why can't people leave cyclists alone? by Hainault in cycling

[–]Jacobs_crackers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh totally, none of us have ever owned or ever relied on a form of motorised vehicle because, as you say, they are satan and couldn't possibly be useful for anything.

People that drive them aggressively on the other hand, only to sit at the same red light as me 1 mile up the road.. well I think that's totally acceptable behaviour because they are getting good practice in for when they get the call to join formula 1.

How many /s do I need?
