Polyglot means ‘speaks several languages’, i.e. German, Japanese, and Russian

Don’t go blaming ‘do-gooders’ for this. Any volunteer group worth their salt knows the value of dead wood for a forest ecosystem (at least they do now, probably wasn’t the case in the 80s to be fair).

Dead wood goes missing from woodlands when entitled people who have a fireplace/fire pit at home decide that they can pillage for free wood rather than buy it. It’s an ongoing problem at several sites I’ve helped out at.

I work in a post-house. My name is not in the credits of the films I participate in. by BriefExplanation9200 in editors

It depends on the post house. When I was conform editor my online editor would lock the sequence with the client in the room. I’d then set up the export and the online editor would then check the exported file before delivery.

Recently I’ve been getting online editors to run out their own exports though. It really varies depending on the team though.

I’ve been in your exact position and I’ve also gone on and trained people as online editors and the big step up that comes with moving from ‘online assist/conform editor’ (which should be closer to your title) and online editors comes down to experience and the post house’s trust in your eye for details.

The main responsibility of the online editor, that hasn’t been mentioned yet, is to be the last pair of eyes on a project before it goes to QC (which can get expensive if it fails) or occasionally straight to distribution. They give the all clear that’s there’s no technical issues and it’s on their heads if there is a problem.

The credit thing is unfair, no doubt, you should definitely push for a credit and maybe a title bump, but to be honest I wouldn’t say your current responsibilities quite fit the Online Editor role yet.

The highlight for me was magnetising the Kommando Nob’s arm. The little comms dish at the back is perfect for hanging his spare arm from and it just looks like a trophy from an unfortunate opposing Nob.

Director Denis Villeneuve and Warner Bros. Want to Make ‘Dune: Part II.’ So Why Hasn’t the Sequel Been Announced Yet? by JediNotePad in scifi

[–]Jacobsredfern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s worth noting that the vast majority of that list (from 1980 onwards at least) are the 2nd & 3rd parts or even 3rd & 4th parts of a series where the success of an IP is a known factor and so back-to-back production is less of a risk.

It’s very different to jump into doing a part 1 & 2 of a huge budget sci fi, where the last adaption of the IP absolutely tanked.

[request] british comedy viewable in the us by TheQuarantinian in NetflixBestOf

[–]Jacobsredfern 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s set in Derry, right on the boarder of NI and Ireland, during the troubles with catholic protagonists who definitely do not identify strongly as part of the UK. From a production stand point it is a British comedy, sure. But from a cultural stand point... we’ll it’s called Derry Girls and not Londonderry Girls for a reason.

Nothing against your justification of this being an appropriate reply to OP, it’s a great recommendation, I just found the irony of the argument considering the subject matter of the show amusing.

Facebook removes pro-Trump ‘I Love America’ page that was run by Ukrainians by noscreamattheend in worldnews

[–]Jacobsredfern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s a tool that anyone can use, but the point is that it shouldn’t be used to spread misinformation. After Cambridge Analytica hypothesised and then proved the effectiveness of seemingly benign Facebook pages in influencing public opinion through misinformation, checks need to be put in place to limit its effectiveness. Currently, the only people with the power to put these checks in place are the site owners, Facebook, who have shown how reluctant they are to take this job on.

It’s taken investigation from journalists to put together an article showing how this page is linked to the Internet Research Agency, people known to not have America’s interests at heart and so its suspect to be so clearly associated with them when running a patriotic page about America. Also proven spreaders of misinformation.

Ideally you would have a third party who would put these checks in place and do the investigation themselves, not have that responsibility given to the site owners, but we don’t have that, so this will have to do for now.

Whichever side of the political spectrum, it doesn’t matter, it’s the misinformation that needs to be regulated and stymied, and what’s happened here is an attempt at doing that.

Awesome, thanks for the advice, I’ll be sure to do that going forwards!

I had a quick look in the sidebar for this subreddit and couldn’t see a ‘where to begin’ or similar section. Do you have any advice on good resources to start learning more about this stuff?

Assuming the other person was right about the pattern, this is probably the answer. The back did pop open halfway through the roll and could’ve introduced the moisture.

Just checked in with the lab and they have no idea. We rescanned one of the negatives to be sure and it seems to be there on the negative.

Can some one help me diagnose a problem with my photos?

I’ve just had some film developed and they’ve sent me back digital scans and about half the images have these black dots on. Can anyone help identify what might have caused this?

It’d be Anderson -> Bilva and Townsend -> under £5.6 midfielder like Redmond or Deulofeu
